Asus Zenfone 4 A450CG (4.5-inch) – Review

Yes this is not Zenfone 4 not Zenfone 5!

Asus Zenfone 4.5Asus launched Zenfone 4 A450CG which is a Zenfone 4 variant. The smartphone looks exactly like its siblings Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6. It has a 4.5-inch display which is a basic difference from Zenfone 4, therefore also known as Zenfone 4.5. It is a Dual SIM smartphone with 2G and 3G network connectivity. The smartphone is available exclusively on Flipkart for Rs. 6,999.

Design

Asus made Zenfone 4.5 similar to other Zenfones. It has polycarbonate body at the back. It has 4.5-inch display which is a perfect screen in our opinion. With the price tag of Zenfone 4.5 it feels like holding a premium smartphone. It has capacitive touch button of back, home and menu keys in front. The power button and volume rocker key are at right side and has a metallic touch.

It has an LED for notifications and 0.3MP front camera at top. The smartphone has micro USB port at the bottom and 3.5mm earpiece jack on top. At the rear end the primary 8MP camera is on top with Asus branding below it and Intel logo with Zenfone printed in bottom. The speakers are at the bottom of rear body. In under hood of back panel dual SIM card slot and microSD card slot are present. It comes with non-removable battery.

Hardware and Software

The Asus Zenfone 4.5 or Zenfone 4 A450CG is clocked at 1.2GHz dual core Intel Atom Z2520 processor. It has 4.5-inch FWVGA display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection and has 854×480 pixels. It comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB on onboard storage which is expandable up to 64GB. Asus is also giving free 5GB of Web Storage (cloud storage) for lifetime. It has 8MP rear camera with LED Flash, Auto Focus and a 0.3MP front facing camera. It supports 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, micro USB, GPS and A-GPS. It comes with 1750mAh battery capacity which is non-removable. We got the Blue colour other than that it comes win Red, White, Black and Yellow.

The Zenfone 4.5 comes with Android 4.4 KitKat running out of the box and Zen UI on top of it. It is the first smartphone in Zenfone series which comes with latest version of Android. The lockscreen gives direct access to Message, Camera and Phone apps. What’s Next is displayed on the lockscreen where you can schedule things.

The Zen UI is smooth, looks sharp and eye catching. It has its own Asus Keyboard which is easy to operate with one hand and it has and extra row of numeric keys. The smartphone comes with some preloaded bloat wares like Omlet Chat, Amazon kindle, Zinio, Story, and Mirror.

Camera

The Asus Zenfone 4.5 rear camera which is 8MP with LED Flash does a decent job and takes some sharp images. The sensor includes autofocus which leads to good result rather worrying of subject getting focus. It comes with HDR, Panorma, Time Rewind, Night, Low light, Selfie, Beautification, Miniature, Depth of field, Smart remove, All smiles and GIF animation modes. These modes let you to take images according to situation and need. In all entry level smartphone its rear camera is pretty good. The front camera 0.3MP is not good for selfies, so don’t expect more from it.

Performance

The Antutu and Quadrant benchmarks for Zenfone 4.5 are 18,307 and 7,024 points. The battery last for 18 hours 45 minutes with the moderate use. The sound output of the smartphone is good.

Gizmo Verdict

The Asus Zenfone 4.5 or Zenfone 4 A450CG is an entry level smartphone for Rs. 6,999. It offers every best specs with the price tag like nice rear camera, decent battery life and latest version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Zen UI.
