Google just announced the launch of their must awaited YouTube Music app in India. This music streaming service marks the arrival of the Google-owned giant in the streaming pool of household names like Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavn and Wynk and Amazon Prime.

Falling data rates and a steep rise in smartphone sales has led companies to intensify their offering to obliterate the competition out of the waters. YouTube intends to exemplify this paradigm with its latest offering dubbed as YouTube Music.

YouTube Music is a reimagined, tailored music app that attempts to recast the wider audience with a tried and tested alternative to music video streaming services. This strenuous idea is specifically created for the India region due to its vast level of regional vibrancy. Users can surf through official songs, albums, thousands of playlist, remixes, live performances, covers and music videos on a single platform.

Google`s offering includes YouTube Music – an ad-supported free version and YouTube Music Premium – subscription-based offering.

Premium users can play songs and videos in the background, while they toggle between apps, write a text message or lock their phone during a run. YouTube Music Premium also offers offline downloads and a completely ad-free experience, starting at just ₹99 a month.

In addition to this, Google also launched YouTube Premium which is also an ad-free option that lets user play videos in background and downloads millions of videos. Users also get access to all YouTube Originals, including Cobra Kai, BTS: Burn the Stage. YouTube Premium starts with a fee of ₹129 a month.

India is where the multi-lingual music scene thrives. It’s interesting to note how Indian artists have consistently claimed top spots over the last few months in the Global YouTube Top Artists chart. With YouTube Music, we are hoping to bring the best in global and Indian music to millions of fans across India, and give them an immersive music experience, with the magic of music on YouTube.

We know that India loves watching music videos on YouTube — be it the vibrancy, choreography, stars and glamour. Music from India has always been so much more than just the audio. Therefore for us, with the launch of YouTube Music, all the emphasis is on the familiar and to make every user experience richer as they start using the service. From recommended music videos, live performances, covers, to new videos — it’s all here, and only here.
