Oppo F9 Pro Review: An Efficient Mid-Ranger

OPPO recently introduced its new flagship smartphone OPPO F9 Pro in the Indian market. The new OPPO F9 Pro supported with the company’s most highlighted feature called VOOC Super Charge. Its similar to the OnePlus Dash charge and offers 2 hours of battery life with 5 minutes of charge.

Apart from it, the smartphone features powerful MediaTek Helio P60 SoC paired with ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU and 6GB RAM. The smartphone comes with a price point of Rs. 23,990, let’s see if it justifies the price point and worth your buy.

Design and Build:

OPPO F9 Pro comes with OPPO’s signature glass back design known as gradient background which offers a colorful reflection. It also features a water drop notch design at the front which offers a maximum screen to body ratio to the users. The body is lightweight and handy although the width is larger than the others.

The rear panel has dual rear camera setup along with flash at the top. An OPPO logo is placed at the center just below the fingerprint sensor. It has a glass and metal unibody, which does make it slippery but the provided plastic suit helps to cover the accident.

On the front, it only features a water drop notch at the top, the rest of the screen is clean and empty. The 3.5mm Aux port, micro USB port, and speaker all are placed at the bottom side of the edge. The volume rocker keys and the power button is placed on the right while the SIM card tray is stapled on the right side of the edge.

All these comprise and offers us a stable and impressive design for the users. The metal unibody supports the design with a strong and sturdy build. Overall its a good combination of both and you’ll really love it if you’re into the gradient background.

Display:

Oppo F9 Pro is equipped with 6.3-inch Full HD+ screen with 19.5:9 ratio, 2,340 x 1,080 pixels resolution. The display offers appropriate brightness is every environment. All the icons seem crisp and colorful most of the time. The auto-brightness level works fine most of the time and the viewing angles of the device are also good.

Hardware and Software:

OPPO F9 Pro is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 SoC clocked at 2GHz paired with Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. There is 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The storage can be expanded up to 256GB of storage via microSD card. Its a Dual-SIM smartphone with 4G LTE capability and it supports other connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB OTG.

On the software front, the smartphone runs on ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The UI is similar to the most of OPPO smartphones we’ve seen this year. ColorOS offers lots of customizations to the users so they can manage their home screen and theme as they want. And it’s simple and responsive so you can enjoy its usage too.

Performance:

The equipped SoC and RAM in OPPO F9 Pro offers fast and responsive environment. Starting from the app response to the multitasking ability, it covers every aspect of mobile usage with ease and simplicity. We loved the device behaviour in our usage period.

The gaming section of the smartphone is also good. We played PUBG Mobile on it and response was fast and intrigued. Although the graphics setting was fixed on Medium, still the response was great. Simple games run smoothly without any lag on it.

The benchmark performance of this device was good and it scored acceptable points on them. It scored 137327 on AnTuTu Benchmark which was good and it was comparable to the scores of other smartphones lying in this price segment. The Geekbench score was 1489/5768 in Single-Core/Multi-Core and it was also comparable.

Jumping to the connectivity and media segment, the 4G LTE connectivity was working great on this device. Also, the other options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB OTG worked fine. We didn’t find any type of lag or dis-connectivity issue on it. The audio and video quality was great and we loved the output from this device.

Camera:

OPPO F9 Pro sports a dual camera setup of a 16MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor with LED flash. The camera is accompanied with AI which offers the option to make images sharp and beautiful. The AI mode can be enabled from the given options and is helpful. The captured images have good color reproductions and in-depth details.

On the front, it sports a 25MP sensor which offers excellent output. We loved the camera performance and its beautification options. The captured images were right in color tone and have a brilliant color reproduction. The front camera is a major plus point if you love to take selfies with your smartphone.

The camera app is simple and offers suitable customization offers. Apart from AI, it also offers different modes for the users. Comparing it to another smartphone under similar pricing, the rear camera is good but the optimization options could be better. On the other hand, the front camera is one of the best on it.

Battery:

The 3500mAh battery worked great on this smartphone. Even after playing PUBG Mobile and other games we got ample amount of battery life on this smartphone. And OPPO’s VOOC Supercharge option refills the battery quickly which makes it best in battery life.

Gizmo-Verdict:

The OPPO F9 Pro is a great smartphone at a price point of Rs. 23,990. It has impressive features like futuristic design with gradient back, impressive battery with VOOC Supercharge and superior camera with 25MP selfie shooter. Apart from them, it also offers decent specification and good performance. If we look at the price point if justifies the most sections of the smartphone.
