Realme 1 Review: Your Budget Companion

Oppo Realme 1

Oppo brought its new smartphone Realme 1 to the market with spectacular specifications at ultra-budget cost. With Oppo Realme 1, Oppo has also shifted to online retails only. Yes, Oppo Realme 1 is only available online via Amazon where the rest of their smartphones are easily available on the offline retails. Oppo Realme 1 comes in there different variant 3GB RAM at Rs 8990, 4GB RAM at Rs 10990 and 6GB RAM of Rs 13990. Oppo Realme 1 also offers all glass body design which seems super impressive. We got the 6GB variant for our review. Let’s see how it performs in our review period.

Design and Build:

The Oppo Realme 1 comes with curved edges and glass frame body. The glass back is accompanied by diamond finish just like the Oppo F7. But unlike that, it comes at very cheap yet sturdy looks. The rear panel shines as the glance changes which give is a premium design and look.

The rear panel comes with single camera and lens on the top right side, Realme logo at the centre while a small Oppo logo at the bottom inscribed under the glass. There’s no fingerprint sensor in this smartphone. On the front, it comes with full-view display, sensors, and camera at the top and with onscreen buttons at the bottom.

The 3.5-mm Audio Jack is at the bottom side of the edge along with micro USB charging port and the speaker’s grill. On the right side, we have a power button and SIM card slots. ON the left we have the Volume rocker keys. The buttons are made of plastic and it slips most of the times.

The lightweight body and appropriate screen size make it a great device which can be used with a single hand. Overall the built is sturdily accompanied by great design. The design we’ve seen in flagships is all at the budget. So, it’s a plus point for Oppo Realme 1.

Display:

Oppo Realme 1 comes with 18:9 aspect ratio Full HD+ display with the pixel resolution of 2160×1080. The bezels on the side are slim and give the edge-to-edge display an appropriate size. The display offers vibrant colour and crisp icons. The brightness is auto adjustable and works most of the time. The viewing angles are good and it also offers good sunlight readability to the users.

Specifications:

Oppo Realme 1 is powered by 12nm Helio P60 octa-core chipset clocks at the maximum speed of 2GHz. There is 6GB of RAM paired with 128GB of built-in storage. Out of 128GB users get 101GB of free space to use. It supports Dual micro SIM with its hybrid slot. The first SIM supports 4G VoLTE wile the other is up to 3G only. Other connectivity options are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, Wi-Fi direct, OTG and Casting.

The software section is also very bright as it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with its custom UI ColorOS 5.0 on the top of it. While most of the budget smartphone is still coming with Android 7.0 Nougat, Android 8 Oreo is a big plus point. The UI on this smartphone is simple and colourful. It also offers a good number of customizations to the users. There is very less bloatware in this smartphone like Facebook, Amazon and few Oppo’s own apps.

Performance:

Oppo Realme 1 performs day to day tasks very well with the accompanied SoC and RAM. The touch response is great as well as the multitasking ability. We ran several apps and tabs at once and we’re able to change them very easily. We enjoyed day-to-day tasks like Camera, Calling, Web Surfing, gaming and Audio/Video Playback very well. It comes out to be all-rounder smartphone.

The benchmark performance of Oppo Realme 1 could be a bit better but it scored well. The AnTuTu score was 138459 which is good comparing to others in the similar price tag. The Geekbench score was 1480 in Single-Core and 5714 in Multi-Core which is also good.

The smartphone leaves its fingerprint sensor for security and comes up with the new Face Unlock. The Face Unlock feature works blazingly fast and unlocks the smartphone quickly. It also detects the face in the low light mode which is also great. The software here is accompanied with the new AI system for the better learning process of behaviour and patterns.

The Gaming section of the device is pretty good. We players several small and high-end games on this device and it loads them very quickly. The high-end games like Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5 show a bit lag at the later stage but that’s negligible. The heating issue is very minimal and it only occurs after continuous gameplay.

The Audio and Video playback of Oppo Realme 1 is great. The sound quality is audible and good enough to enjoy with both speakers and earphones. The 4G LTE connectivity of the device is good and we didn’t find any type of lag or distortions in our usage period. The call quality was great and there was no drop.

Camera:

Oppo Realme 1 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with a single-LED flash. The camera captures good images with good details. The colour composition of the captured image is vibrant and bright. The low light performance of the smartphone is average.  The camera has fast focusing and auto adjustments enabled with the AI support. It can detect and learn the atmosphere and offers required changes in the quality.

The front camera is of 8-megapixel which captured descent selfies. It has a good amount of details and tone level. It also has beauty mode which shoots a few enhanced images. The AI also works here giving a better output. The given camera app is simple to use and offers several modes to capture images like AI stickers, bokeh mode and many more. Overall the camera section is good and one can get good images with it.

Battery:

The Oppo Realme 1 is backed by 3410mAh of the battery which offers a full day battery backup with moderate usage. So, if you’re a minimal user you won’t need to worry about the battery. In our video loop test, it lasted for 10:30 hours which is good. The battery is well optimized with the AI system for better usage. The only drawback is it doesn’t support quick-charge and takes up to 3 hours to fully charge.

Gizmo Verdict:

Oppo Realme 1 is great all-rounder smartphone with a decent price. It has great usability, camera performance, face unlock technology, updated specifications all within the budget range. If you want a stylish smartphone with a great day-to-day life experience you can surely go for it. This is one of the best smartphones in the budget as for now.
