The LG K7 LTE is a budget smartphone launched by the Korean company at a price tag of Rs 9,500. In terms of given specifications, it seems to a little over-priced. Lets check out if the phone justify its price and whether it’s worth a buy.
Build and Design
The LG K7 LTE comes with a plastic body and a rubber-furbished surface at the back, which makes offers a good grip and hold steady. The body is curvy at the edges with a candy bar shape, which gives it an impressive design and a classy look. I have the black variant for review purposes, but you can also choose Titan or white colours. The smartphone is very light in weight and size is good enough to hold in one hand.
The front panel has LG logo at the bottom with mic and front camera at the top. The screen doesn’t have any physical capacitive buttons rather than they are on the display screen. The 3.5-mm audio jack and micro-USB port is at the bottom edge.
The rear panel has LG logo at the middle and the rear camera with flash is at the top, along the power and volume rocker keys. The speakers are at the bottom side.
Display
The smartphone features a compact 5-inch display with 854 x 480 pixels resolution. The display quality of the smartphone is quiet acceptable but not so good. It can be better, the colour reproduction is nice, but the text isn’t as sharp. The bezels are also quite thick. The display has wide viewing angles and ample brightness levels for reading under direct sunlight.
Hardware and Software
Talking about the hardware, it sports a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor clocked at 1.1GHz coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. The internal memory is having capacity of 8GB and there’s an expandable microSD card slot of 32GB. The given specification is really low and old comparing with the smartphones carrying the similar price tag.
The K7 LTE is a dual-SIM (nano + nano) smartphone with 4G and VoLTE support. The first SIM slot supports nano-SIM (4G) and can be swappable as microSD card slot. The second slot support nano-SIM with (3G / 2G).
In terms of software, the device is running on Android 5.1 Lollipop with its custom UI on the top. The given UI is decent and has a ton of customization features. Sadly, it comes with bloatware like Cell Broadcast, LG backup, Evernote, and LG Smart-World. Overall, the UI is good and we didn’t find any type of lag in it.
Camera
The LG K7 LTE sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash. The performance of the camera is really poor even even when compared to the other smartphone with similar specification. The colour reproduction isn’t accurate and it also lacks contrast and details. The camera is slow and takes time to focus. The lowlight performance is not good either.
The given camera app is similar to the LG K10 LTE, it offers minimal features, but could have been better. The front camera is of 5-megapixel and takes satisfactory selfies. The biggest problem with the camera quality is that it can’t match with the similarly-priced smartphones.
Performance
The overall performance of the smartphone is acceptable and it runs lots of apps simultaneously smoothly. Although, I did feel a little lag in touch while multitasking. The gaming performance is not as good because of the poor processor, heavy games like Asphalt and Modern Combat lags a lot while playing. The simple games likes Subway Surfers, Temple Run and Candy Crush run fine.
The benchmark performance of the smartphone is 20,600 in AnTuTu and 8,693 in Quadrant Standard, which is comparatively low against the smartphones with a similar price tag.
The battery performance is quiet good and the LG K7 LTE gives a 12 hours running time with moderate use with its 2,125mAh battery. It included using Wi-Fi, social networking, playing games, videos and music.
The call facility on the device is good and we didn’t face any type of call drop in it. It supports 4G very well. The music and video playback is also good, so one can enjoy it comfortably
Gizmo Verdict
In my opinion, if you just want a branded smartphone with acceptable features and specification, then only it’s good for you. Although, you have options like the Samsung Galaxy J3 in this segment. Otherwise, you can go for better smartphones available in this range like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 1s Eco and Meizu M3 note.
