Lenovo Z2 Plus Review: A worthy competitor under 20K range

Lenovo is back with Z2 Power

Lenovo Z2 Plus

Lenovo Z2 Plus is powerful smartphone launched with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The smartphone has one of the best specifications one can get under 20K. With a classic look and elegant design it seems a worthy smartphone to buy. Let’s check out if it worth our buy or not.

Build and Design

The Lenovo Z2 Plus has a sturdy metallic body with smooth glossy finish. The design is impressive and the curved compact size body seems classic. The 5-inch size seems comfortable to use and easy to hold.

The rear panel consist of a camera and a LED flash at the left corner. The logo is at the lower side of the smartphone. The front panel consist of the a camera and sensor at the top, a slim size bezel around the display and a fingerprint sensor/home button at the lower panel. The SIM card tray is on the left side of the bezel. The power key and the volume rocker keys are at the right side of the edge.

The overall design and build quality of the smartphone is good with the price point of view, and one of the best under 20K segment.

Display:

The Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with 5-inch Full HD LTPS LCD display screen with 1920×1080 pixel resolution, which is approx. 441 ppi. The display of the smartphone is very smooth and accurate. The screen can be visible under direct sunlight as well from different viewing angles. The auto-mode doesn’t work very well and needed to change it manually.

Hardware and Software:

The Lenovo Z2 Plus is powered by Qualcomm top notch Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.15GHz. The SoC is majorly used in flagship devices this year. There is two RAM variant, one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage while the other one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal memory. We got the 4GB variant for our review.

The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with its custom UI called ZUI. The UI doesn’t comes with any of bloatware which is a great plus point of the smartphone. The notification bar slides down from the top but the recent and direct icons bar comes from downward.

Performance:

The smartphone perform flawless in our test. It handles all the app very smoothly and one can open other app simultaneously with no lag. The touch response of the smartphone is also very good.

The fingerprint sensor is given on the home button. It works fine but sometime just touching the home button with little more pressure works and home page opens. The fingerprint sensor has some of the additional functionality like swipe the recent apps and opening the camera.

The gaming performance of the smartphone is amazing and I didn’t find any type of lag in it while playing high end games like Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5. There was very minimal heating issue while playing the game for longer time but it can be neglected.

The benchmark performance of the smartphone is 116690 and 31607 in AnTuTu and Quadrant Standard which is really good with respect to the given specification and price point.

The call and network performance of the smartphone is good. I didn’t faces any type of call drop or networking issue in my usage.

Battery:

The Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with 3500mAh of battery which gives impressive performance. The battery last for a full day with moderate usage. It supports Quick Charge 3.0 but the company provides an ordinary charger which is a big disappointment. It takes around 3-4 hours to full charge.

Camera:

The rear panel sports a 13-megapixel camera with LED flash. The camera shoots descent images and has good amount of details in it. The focus is bit slow but the snapped image has good colour contrast. The low light images of the smartphone is also good but the manual mode needs a bit improvement. The power of the camera is not the best with respect to the price point but works absolutely fine.

The front camera is of 8-megapixel and it shoots great selfies. The images recognition function works fine and helps to shoot smiling photos. The low light performance of the smartphone is good but needs little improvement on sensors.

Gizmo Verdict:

The Lenovo Z2 Plus offers a great specification and performance. It has all the major things that a flagship device needed. In the price range of 20K, it is the best device you can go for.
