There’s no doubt that the Chinese brand OPPO has come a long way in the Indian market. The brand made its debut back in 2014, and since then, it has become one of the fastest-growing phone brands in the country. However, amidst reports of losses, OPPO’s India MD Yi Wang has just stepped down from his position, effective November 30th.
But that’s not all, the company is also in news today as HiPad – its manufacturing partner based out of Noida – recently sacked 200 employees. And when they were informed about this without notice, they created a rampage.
However, OPPO has reached out to Gizmomaniacs stating that the brand is in the market for a long duration as it says “We are here for the long-run and are currently in the investment-heavy phase of our long-term strategy. Our commitments – whether it is marketing to an aspirational audience in tier II regions who are fuelling the demand for smartphones in India or our associations with sports, entertainment and lifestyle that connect with our primary target audience – will continue in India as we see it as one of the largest markets for our products. We are on track and will continue to evolve with the Indian consumer to bring the latest technology and best-in-class products to them.”
Talking about its manufacturing facility in Noida, it said “Regarding the recent stories on, worker protests in Noida, the organization in question (Hipad) and its workers are independent entities not related to OPPO. The organization was one of our part-time vendors in the past and supplies phone manufacturing parts to many of our peers in the industry. There is no ongoing relationship with OPPO in this case and hence it does not require any action whatsoever from OPPO India. Further reports relating to lowering production are baseless and false.”
