The moment you all have been waiting for is finally here. Jio just announced the commercial rollout of their Jio Fiber service starting September 5 in India.
The announcement made at the 42nd Annual General Meeting marked the 3rd anniversary of Jio since its launch back in 2016. The company just surpassed an important milestone in India with their 340 million active users and an adoption rate of 10 million users per month. The company has the largest optical fibre footprint in India with lines that can cover the entire earth two times over.
The service is named “JioFiber” as opposed to its earlier draft mentioning – “GigaFiber”. The launch comes barely after a few months since the company concluded its trial testing across several key cities. The company hopes to reach its target size of 20 million residents and 15 million establishments across 1600 towns within 12 months.
Jio Fiber plans will start from ₹700 for 100Mbps plan and will go up to ₹10,000 for 1 Gbps plans. A comprehensive list of all the plans will be revealed on September 5ththis year. The Jio Fiber will enable users to enjoy the freedom of free voice calls across anywhere in India. There is also an international package which includes unlimited calls made to US and Canada at a flat ₹500/month basis.
Jio Fiber includes its well-known introductory “Welcome Offer” that provides Full HD/4K TV for users opting for an annual plan. Jio Fiber will also include subscriptions to most leading premium OTT applications. Jio has also mentioned an ambitious project of allowing First Day First Show option to premium JioFiber customers to watch latest released movies on the same day of its release. However, this service will arrive sometime later in 2020. Significant features includes a host of VR content, Multiparty Video Conferencing for free, Voice-enabled Virtual Assistants, Interacting gaming, Home security and Smart home Solutions for its broadband users.
Gaming is also included in this set-top-box as it offers online multiplayer gaming at 4K resolution with support for multiple gaming controllers. The company has partnered with Microsoft, Tencent Games, Gameloft, RIOT Games, Milestone to include some creative titles.
JioPostPaid Plus service will offer platinum-grade service and great product experience with India’s priority SIM-setup service at home though easy installation across several cities. It will also provide seamless data connectivity, International Roaming, and Phone upgrades at preferential rates. The company also showed off its mixed reality headset called the Jio Holoboard, for creative applications like shopping, educational, entertainment, etc. The headset will be made by a company called Tesseract which is one of their earlier investments.
