HMD Global launched Nokia 5.4 in India after it was launched internationally in December. The smartphone comes under the part of Google’s Android One programme and promises two years of Android updates as well as three years of Android Security updates. While this may appeal to the Pure Android lovers, can it impress the other customers? As I got the Nokia 5.4 and here is my first impression.
The Nokia 5.4 will be coming with the starting price of Rs. 13,999, which is a successor of Nokia 5.3. It comes with 6.39-inch HD+ display with a punch hole on it. It houses 16MP selfie camera in the front and earpiece place in the top middle part. The display is tall with 19.5:9 aspect ratio with Nordic Design. It is easy to hold Nokia 5.4 with a single handle but topples if trying to reach on top with same. HMD Global opted for the plastic body which does feel good in the hand, not bulky and also the weight is evenly distributed.
Mostly all the Nokia smartphones come with the dedicated Google Assistant button on left, it can be seen same on the Nokia 5.4, also with power and volume button placed in the right side which feels a bit stretched to reach. All of the buttons offer good tactile feedback. The SIM card tray is placed above the Google Assistant button, with two Nano-SIM slot and a dedicated microSD card slot.
The corners of the device are rounded, also it has a curved frame and side which makes it a comfortable hold. The Nokia 5.4 has USB Type-C port in the bottom, along with speakers and microphone. The 3.5mm audio jack is on the top with a secondary microphone.
Nokia is offering quad-camera setup on Nokia 5.4, with the four lenses arranged in a ring and flash on the left side of the ring. There’s a 48-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, a 5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.
Below the camera module fingerprint scanner is placed, which is well-positioned and can be reached easily while holding the smartphone. HMD Global has also added a Nokia logo on the back of the smartphone in landscape orientation. The Nokia 5.4 is available in three colours, Polar Night and Dusk. I got my hands on a Polar Night version of the device.
HMD Global offers a 4,000mAh battery on the Nokia 5.4, which should help it deliver decent battery life. It comes with 10W Charger in the box which means charging duration will be more, a pair of earphones and silicone back cover in the box.
The Nokia 5.4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 which is an octa-core processor. The Nokia 5.4 will be coming in two variants with 4G and 6GB RAM options, where the storage is 64GB same for both and you get expandable storage option with MicroSD card.
Since the Nokia 5.4 is a part of the Android One programme, it runs clean stock Android 10. The smartphone gets Jan 2021 Android security patch when I was setting up the phone, still, there is no word on Android 11 update, as per the company we will going to get it soon.
The best part of stock Android can be experienced on the Nokia 5.4 with no bloatware or pre-installed apps. The Nokia 5.4 with 4GB RAM variant is priced for Rs. 13,999 and 6GB RAM variant is priced Rs. 15,499. The Nokia 5.4 will be competing against the Redmi Note 9 Pro, realme narzo 20 Pro, Moto G9 Power, Poco M3 and Samsung Galaxy M31 which will be a tough fight in the Indian market. Our rigorous benchmark, in-depth testing and review will be coming very soon for the Nokia 5.4 on Gizmomaniacs.
