Insider story of Kit Kat Android OS | GizmoManiacs

Key Lime Pie went stale – Kit Kat it is!

Oh yes! For what seems likes centuries we all thought Key Lime Pie is on its way but who knew it would get stale right before it reaches us?!

You can be shocked or surprised but Google’s next operating system for android is going to be called Kit Kat. Now how is that for having a break?

Android-4.4-kitkat-Google-HQ-Mountain-viewFive reasons to shove off Key Lime Pie and bring in Kit Kat

  • It is win-and-win for both the brands. More promotion, more marketing.
  • Most of us can relate more to Kit Kat (emotional kar diya yaar!)
  • Google wants to maintain its cool and spontaneous reputation.
  • After Jelly Bean, Kit Kat makes sense alphabetically.
  • It’s not about money so, double promotion for free!

Some quotes we heard on news after this surprise:

“You can go round the swimming pool 10 times wondering if the water is cold or hot or you say: ‘Let’s jump.’” –  Patrice Bula, Nestle’s marketing chief

“We kept calling the name Key Lime Pie internally and even when we referred to it with partners,” – John Lagerling, director of Android global partnerships

“This is not a money-changing-hands kind of deal,” – John Lagerling, director of Android global partnerships.Key Lime Pie went stale – Kit Kat it is!

So there you go, now when you have your break and your Kit Kat you might be talking about something more expensive than a chocolate bar.

This will also mean that many kids around you would be excited about android shaped Kit Kat which will be made as promotional (read expensive) purposes. These Android shaped KitKats will be sold in 19 markets including UK, US, Brazil, India, Japan and Russia.

Why do you think they named it Kit Kat? Will the name make some difference or as someone great once said, “What is there in name?”
