Archos launches 5 new Android, Windows devices before the IFA

Archos 50b PlatinumThe French consumer electronics giant has planned to enter the multibillion dollar smartphone/tablet market. Established in 1988, Archos has been able to satisfy all of its consumers by the renovations they perform under the consumer durables category. With pioneer engineering in portable media players, personal digital assistant, netbooks and data storage devices Archos has been able to live up to the expectations of the consumers. They have recently entered into the consumer smartphone/tablet segment based on popular Google Android and Microsoft Windows platforms.

Ahead of the IFA event, Archos has managed to launch three new Android based devices and two Windows based devices. The Android based devices launched are Archos 45c Platinum, Archos 50b Platinum and Archos 101 Oxygen (tablet). On the windows platform Archos has launched the Archos 40 Cesium and Archos 80 Cesium (tablet). As far as the status of launch is concerned, the company has not announced the list of countries where these devices will be available but the price tag in GBP suggests that they will surely launch in the UK.

The Archos 45c Platinum has a 4.55 inch FWVGA, i.e., 480 x 854p resolution, powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core MediaTek processor. The device supports Dual SIM standby with 512 MB of RAM (…which is lesser than our expectations) and 4 GB of in built storage along with memory expansion slot till 32 GB. The device has 5 MPix primary camera which has recording capabilities of up to 1080p videos and the secondary front facing camera is of 2 MPix for video calling. All of the hardware is powered by a 1700 mAh battery which is more or less sufficient for 1 day usage (if you are not a game freak). This device runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box and has been given a price tag of GBP 99 (~INR 9900).

The Archos 50b Platinum has 5 inch qHD display running on a resolution of 540 x 960p powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core Cortex A7 on MediaTek MT6582 chipset. It also has Mali 400MP2 graphics processor for good gaming experience. The device has a 512 MB RAM with 4 GB of in built storage along with 8 GB micro SD card provided along with the handset. The primary snapper of this device is of 8MP which can record videos of up to 1080p with LED Flash. The secondary front facing camera for video calling is of 2 MPix. This device is powered by a 1900 mAh Li-Po battery which can sustain the device for a day. The 50b Platinum also runs on Android KitKat out of the box and is priced at GBP 119 (~INR 11900).Archos 101 Oxygen

The Archos 101 Oxygen tablet has a stunning display of 10.1 inch at a 1080 x 1920p resolution. This tablet is powered by a Cortex A17 processor coupled with 1.5 GB of RAM. The tablet has an in built storage of 16 GB. The tablet also runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The tablet is price at GBP 199(~INR 19900).Archos 40 Cesium

Now coming on the Windows based smartphone and tablet. The Archos 40 Cesium has an ultra-clear display of 4 inch. It is powered by a Qualcomm 200 Chipset with a quad core processor (…still not clear if it’s Cortex A7 or A5). The device runs on latest Windows 8.1 OS. All the other details are still missing, but be assured we will update it as soon as we know them. The Windows based smartphone is priced at GBP 79(~INR 7900). It will be available in yellow, blue and black colours in the market.

The Windows based tablet ,i.e., the Archos 80 Cesium has an IPS display size of 8 inch running at a resolution of 800 x 1280p. The tablet will be powered by an Intel quad core processor. We are still working on more details of this device. As far as the price is concerned this tablet will be priced at GBP 129 (~INR 12900).

The devices launched look beautiful and sturdy as well. The two Android based smartphones will hit the stores by October along with the Windows tablet Archos 80 Cesium. The Windows based smartphone will go on sale on September.  Archos is also planning to launch home automation and additional gadgets to track temperature, humidity, air quality and noise pollution. The devices, as called, Archos Weather Station can be connected to Android and Windows devices. This device is priced at GBP 100(~INR 10000). CEO of Archos Loic Poirier also quoted “Our upcoming line-up of consumer products delivers amazing performance, superior design and impressive affordability”
