Full-frame mirrorless S-SERIES Camera by Panasonic – Launched

Panasonic launched its first full-frame mirrorless camera series in India on Monday. The launch includes two S-series cameras dubbed as the Lumix S1 and Lumix S1R.

“S-series marks our sheer commitment to achieve double-digit market share, by delivering unmatched features like intuitive control, a rugged design for heavy-field use (up to -10°C), industry-leading 4K video recording performance, effective image stabilization, rich gradation and superior colour reproduction”, said Sandeep Sehgal, Business Chief, Panasonic India.

Both cameras feature a 35mm CMOS sensor with added support for L-mount lenses. The Lumix S1 uses a 24.2MP full-frame sensor, while the S1R uses a much bigger 47.3MP sensor targeted at seasoned professionals. The L-mount standard is a mutual alliance between Leica, Panasonic and Sigma that allows for an optional combination of interchangeable lenses. The company introduced three new lenses Lumix S Pro 50mm f/1.4, Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f/4.0 OIS, and Lumix S 24-105mm f/4.0 Macro OIS with 42 more lenses to follow the suit over a brisk two-year period.

The body is made from premium materials like magnesium alloy and is resistant to dust and occasional splashes of water. The cameras feature a 3.2-inch LCD display and come with the world’s highest resolution electronic OLED viewfinder that has 5.76 million-dots.

The Lumix S1`s 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor packs a native ISO range from 100-51,200. It lets you shoot Ultra High-Resolution 96-megapixel photos with its pixel shift technology shooting. On the other hand, the Lumix S1R comes with a 47.3-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with a native ISO range from 100-25,600. The Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R both offer high speed, high precision AF system with a new “Venus Engine” that enables sharp focus without compromise. The Lumix S1R features a full-fledged high Res mode that enables it to capture 187MP ultra-high precision photo with its revolutionary pixel shift technology.

Other highlights include features such as HDR still photo, 4K video recording at 60fps, slow-mo at 180 fps, 6K and 4K photos, 5-axis dual image stabilisation, as well as a high-speed consecutive shot at 9fps and 6fps.

The Panasonic Lumix S1 and Lumix S1R are priced at Rs. 1,99,990 and Rs. 2,99,990 respectively (body-only). The price shoots up to Rs. 2,67,990 and Rs. 3,67,990 for additional Lumix S 24-105mm f/4.0 Macro OIS lens kit. Both cameras are up for purchase at your nearest Panasonic retailers.
