Google Announces the Latest Features in Android Q

Google announced a host of new features at the Google I/O 2019 such as new and improved Google Search, Google Lens and Google Assistant to name a few. These announcements also included the newest features in the Android Q. let’s skim over some of the significant features on the Android Q. The most awaited feature Dark theme is now finally available for Android.

Support for 5G and Foldable devices

Android Q is set to embrace foldable devices as it provides inbuilt support to such curated screen aspect ratios. Google will provide developer tools that will help build faster connectivity, enhance the gaming experience and supports the latest AR platform.

Live Caption feature

Next in line is the Live caption feature which is targeted to help the hearing-impaired people. The feature will automatically caption the media playing on the user’s phone as soon as speech is detected and can work offline.

Smart Reply for notifications

A smart reply function builds into the notification panel helps in suggesting replies by predicting users’ action.

Dedicated Privacy section

Google updated its privacy setting with the launch of a dedicated feature called the ‘Privacy section’. This section includes all privacy-related settings bundled into a specific tab in the settings app. There is also a new “Location setting” where users can get more control over the apps that get access to location data. Users will also receive reminders when a particular app is fetching location data in the background.

Focus Mode

Google has introduced a Focus Mode which lets user dial down the average distraction one faces through using a smartphone. Users can turn off certain apps under the focus mode to prevent notifications and updates.

All these features will be rolling out in Android Q Beta starting today with the beta version available across 21 devices from 13 brands, including all Pixel phones.
