Huawei P20 Lite is the budget edition of the P20 Pro. The smartphone comes at an attractive price of Rs 19,999 only. The USP of Huawei P20 Lite is the Notch Design display, 4GBof RAM, and Android 8.0 Nougat. The smartphone features all of the major features which is in P20 Pro. Let’s see how the smartphone performs in our review period.
Design and Build:
The Huawei P20 Lite features a top-notch design with a 5.84-inch display. The body frame is made of Aluminum while the rear panel is made of glass. The device is very slim and light in weight. The curved body comes with curved edges which makes it very attractive.
The rear panel comes is of black colour backed by the 2.5D curved glass. The Dual-Camera is horizontally aligned with the LED lens at the top left corner. The fingerprint sensor is at the center while the Huawei logo is at the bottom left corner.
On the front panel, all the sensors and the front camera is on the notch giving the display maximum space. There are on-screen buttons instead of physical one. Overall the design segment is impressive and the build is of top quality.
Display:
It features a 5.84-inch FHD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio. It has 2280×1080 pixel resolution with 436ppi. The display quality is very good and it represents the pixels accurately. The sunlight readability is not great and you’ll need to increase the brightness manually.
Specification:
Huawei P20 Lite is powered by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 659 processor clubbed with 4GB of RAM. There is 64GB of onboard storage with an expandable hybrid slot supporting 256GB microSD card. It is a Dual-SIM smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity. Other connectivity options are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, Type-C, and GPS.
On the software section, it runs on Android 8.0 based on its own custom EMUI 8.0. The UI is clean and simple still, it houses a lot of bloatware which takes a lot of storage. The UI also offers a lot of customization options to the users.
Performance:
Huawei P20 Lite runs smoothly with the paired SoC and RAM. The 4GB of RAM offers great multitasking ability. The touch response is great and very effective as it responds very quickly. The apps take very minimal time to open up.
The benchmark performance of the smartphone is good but still less to the other smartphone within the similar price range. It scores 86977 in AnTuTu while the Geekbench score was 925 in Single-Core and 3696 Multi-Core.
The gaming performance of the device is good. We played high end games like Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5 and Shadow Fight 2. The gameplay was good but it started to lag after a while. We also saw very minimal heating issue after our gameplay.
The 4G VoLTE connectivity of the device works fine and we didn’t find any type of lag while using it. The call voice was clear and there wasn’t any drop or dysconnectivity issue. The Audio and Video quality is good, one can enjoy movie and videos with effective audible sound quality. The fingerprint and face unlock also works well.
Battery:
The smartphone houses a 3000mAh of the battery which offers a full day runtime with minimal usage. As the usage and abilities are growing the battery also needs to be bigger and with better optimizations. I found that the battery drains a bit fast when you’re using the camera. On the other hand, it has Type-C quick charging support which charges the device within 2 hours.
Camera:
The rear camera is of a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and a dedicated 2-megapixel depth sensor. The rear camera captures very decent images but the output quality doesn’t seem very impressive. They lack in details in some photos. Also, the low light ability is not up to the mark.
The front camera is of a 24-megapixel front camera with an aperture of f/2.0 to captures selfies. The front camera snaps very crisp and toned selfies. The output images have very good in-depth details and colour compositions. There are several modes in the camera app like Bokeh, Live, Panorama. HDR etc. all of them works great and comes in hand to shoot desirable images.
Gizmo Verdict:
The Huawei P20 Lite is a great device comparing to the given specifications and the price point. It has great design and wonderful performance. It only lacks in the battery section which is covered by the quick charge features. So overall it’s a very good option to go with.
