Infinix Smart 3 Plus: Rs.6,999… Really??

Infinix, a Hong Kong-based smartphone manufacturer recently launched it’s Smart 3 Plus smartphone in India. The Smart 3 Plus is dubbed to be the cheapest device to offer a triple camera setup in India coming in at just Rs.6,999. The smartphone is a worthy successor to the Smart 2 which was launched earlier last year. The secret sauce of the Infinix smartphones seems to be a great camera setup, solid build, bigger display and a large battery within the pocket-friendly price point.

But is this enough to rival the established names in the market, let’s find out…

Design and display

The glass-like design gives it a specious appearance that inspires a lot of confidence. However, this façade is nothing but a mix of plastics glued together in a rather upmarket style. The device offers a waterdrop notch which provides for a screen real-estate that is enough to feel comfortable. The 6.21-inch display (720×1520 px) with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 emits decent colour and looks adequately bright. It’s covered by a 2.5D glass upfront which looks rather good but attracts a lot of fingerprint and smudges. It comes in two colour schemes namely the Midnight Black and Sapphire Cyan.

Processor

This budget-oriented device is powered by a 2GHz MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core processor coupled with IMG PowerVR GPU and 2GB RAM with 32 GB of onboard storage. The company should have at least included an optional 3GB RAM variant as the device struggles to keep up with the multitasking needs of an average user. However, if one keeps clearing the running background apps every once in a while, it might just work great. The company include its own skin of XOS 5.0 UI on top of Android Pie which renders smooth animations and handles small tasks pretty well.

Camera

The showstopper here is the triple camera setup which aims to take stellar images right off the back. It comprises of a 13 MP f/1.8 aperture, 2 MP sensor and a low light sensor which works in synergy to take lifelike images as purported by the company. After using this device for a while, we were quite impressed as the images turned out to be great. The overall quality of the images came out with the right amount of exposure and saturation we were hoping to get. Also, the camera app is filled with features such as auto scene detection, AR stickers and a dedicated AI beauty mode for the selfies clicked through the front facing 8 MP camera unit.

Battery Life

The Infinix Smart 3 Plus comes with a 3,500mAh battery that lasted for more than a day worth of average use age. We scoured through our daily social media and twitter posts but refrained from playing any games, as we managed to clock a screen time of 17 hrs. until we needed to plug it into a socket.

Gizmo Verdict

The Infinix Smart 3 Plus is a great attempt from the relatively newer company. It performed well for the price and satisfied all our needs. It looked stunning and took great pictures which were totally unexpected, however giving it a 3GB of RAM would have been totally worth it. Nonetheless, it’s a great option for the people looking for a decent smartphone on a shoestring budget.
