Lenovo A6 Note: Capable New Contender in the Budget Segment?

The new A6 Note is a new entry-level smartphone from Lenovo launched in India. This smartphone hopes to dial down on the affordable chart with its large display and upgraded hardware.

We had a chance to review the smartphone in our office, so let’s see what it has to offer.

Display & Design

The design of the Lenovo A6 Note seems bland with its simple design of a dual-camera setup on the left and a fingerprint sensor mounted at the centre. The body is made using a Unibody design that boasts an ergonomic and elegant feel to it. All this, coupled with its proportions make the A6 Note a great fit for your hands.

The front comes with a 6.09-inch (720×1560 pixels) display which is neatly packed to give it an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Despite the low PPI count, there wasn’t a single time when we though its low resolution might affect the image quality. Thus, making this dewdrop shaped display a perfect setting for playing games or binge-watching. Additionally, the smartphone screen was surprisingly better than we hoped for when viewed under direct sunlight.

Processor & UI

The A6 Note runs on MediaTek Helio P22 processor made out of 12nm manufacturing process that is coupled with 3GB of RAM. This setup makes the application run faster and UI far smoother. The PowerVR GE8320 GPU is a good companion that works quite well with less intensive gaming titles like Dr. Driving, Subway Surfer and Temple Run 2. Being a budget chipset, playing demanding titles like Asphalt and Real Racing must be kept at the lowest possible setting to make the games playable.

Where the chipset struggle for the ability to run multiple apps simultaneously across the background. This is adorned by the fact that the device runs a pure android OS with no bloatware spread across the UI.

Camera

The dual-camera setup of 13MP primary lens and 2MP depth lens are assisted by Artificial intelligence for better photography. The lens setup has nothing significant to note as it produces rudimentary images. AI does help the shots seem a bit clear and on the life-like style, which does stir up the excitement level, but it fails to act in the low light settings. The watermark shows is the time and date stamp which is weird.

Overall the images clicked under sufficient daylight were great and useable for social media. It has great saturation and clarity that creates a perfect backdrop for outdoor use. Falling daylight presented some significant problems as the lens struggles to discern any detail lying in the background.

The 5MP front-facing camera, on the other hand, is good compared to the back unit. The AI beauty feature present with this lens works intelligently to beautify your image to create some enchanting selfies. However, we were impelled to skip the smartphone in the low light settings due to its mediocre performance.

Battery

The smartphone comes with a 4000mAh battery setup that uses intelligent power-saving technology and a 12nm processor to give it a max standby time. This can be attested by the fact that we got over a day worth of use despite our extensive toying around this device. The charge times are also fast without any quick charging technology built into this device. The box includes the 10W standard adapter to charge the device from 0% to 100% which comes in at just under 2 hours.

Gizmo Verdict

The Lenovo A6 Note is not a perfect smartphone in any sense but does its job in tits and pieces. It has a great screen, massive battery and rest are compromised including camera, which gives all the competitors an upper edge. The other options in the market are Realme C2, Infinix Hot 8 and Redmi 8A.
