Microsoft entered in the tablet segment with the Surface tablet and about a year later it has unveiled its next generation model Surface 2 at its event in New York City. The company showcased the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 at the event. It also includes a version with a smaller screen to compete with Apple iPad Mini, Google Nexus 7 and other dominant ones.
Microsoft began with surface tablet last October but their sale was too slow and now they have come up with all new features. Surface 2 is the successor to Surface RT and Surface Pro 2 is the successor of Surface Pro.
The new Surface tablets are lighter and thinner because of processing chip that uses less energy and doesn’t require a fan this chip is already used by Apple, Samsung, Dell and other companies in their laptops.
Surface 2 runs on ARM-based (nVidia Tegra 4) with Windows RT 8.1 and Surface Pro 2 have Intel core i5-based Haswell processor with windows 8.1 Pro both having 10.6 inch 1080p display screen.
Pricing and Availability
Surface 2 comes in 32/64 GB and Surface Pro 2 is in 64/128/256/512 GB both have microSD slots for 64GB expansion. Both the models will be available on or around October 22.
Surface 2 will start at $500 for 32GB version and 64GB will start at $600 and Surface Pro will be launched for close to $900 for a 64GB version and $1000, $1300 and $1700 for 128GB, 256GB and 512GB respectively.
