The mid-range segment is has been flooded with too many brands, OPPO tries to take the different path by going premium segment. OPPO Reno4 Pro brings bonker in the display and rapid fast 65W charging. Has OPPO packed all the required features in the Reno4 Pro, let’s check it out in our detail review.
Design and Display
Like we said earlier, OPPO brings the best in class in the display of Reno4 Pro. The Reno4 Pro comes with 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED curved display with 20:9 aspect ratio, 92.01 percent screen-to-body ratio and 2400×1080 pixels. It has a 90Hz refresh rate with a peak brightness of 1100 nits. There’s a single punch-hole where the front camera is placed. Though the phone misses HDR 10 and 10+ but delivers good contrast with rich colors for watching Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video. You can always switch refresh rate between 90Hz, 60Hz or Auto. The viewing angles are great in bright sunlight and there was no trouble in reading.
OPPO has delivered premium finishing in Reno Series, it includes Reno4 Pro. Starting with the weight of the phone is 161 gms, and 7.7mm thin. The lightweight doesn’t make any compromise in the build quality. The rear panel has a rough matte finish which is a polymer resin, which is basically plastic. The material feels rough finish which makes it less slippery, matte finish and won’t register fingerprints or smudges. The look is quite appealing, we got the gradient Starry Night color.
The buttons are placed inside with tactile feel, the power button comes with a green accent which looks great. The smartphone comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor which is an optical sensor that works adequately. In the bottom frame, it has USB Type-C port, headphone jack and a speaker grille, while the triple card tray is found on the top of the frame.
Performance and Software
OPPO Reno4 Pro comes with Octa-Core Snapdragon 720G processor and GPU Adreno 618. It has 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage which also has expandable storage variant. The Octa-Core processor doesn’t get any hiccup while using day today but it is definitely not meant for heavy gamers. We have played PUBG 30 mins though we didn’t get max graphics performance but ran smoothly with no lags and shutter on HD and high graphics.
It is running on Android 10 with Color OS 7.2 on top. The phone got July security patch which is a good aspect for the user as it is getting security updates on time. It comes with some Bloatware like Helo and more, which will be removed in the next update as per OPPO. It has OPPO’s custom browser, music, weather and more apps with 90Hz refresh rate it works as buttery smooth. It has system-wide Dark mode too.
The speakers on Reno4 Pro are good as it has a mono speaker. Sound quality is pretty clear and doesn’t tear when maxed out. It has 3.5mm headphone jack which is an added feature, also OPPO covers the earphone in the box. The phone supports all the latest audio codecs, too, including aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC.
Camera
OPPO is always known for best camera, and expectations go higher for Reno series too. If we talk about the specs – primary 48MP with Sony IMX586 sensor camera, which does the major tasks, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. The main sensor can go up to 10X digital zoom while the optical zoom on it is 2X. It also has a 32MP with Sony IMX616 sensor front camera which comes in the punch-hole display.
OPPO tuned the camera to deliver sharp and vibrant, these images will be ready to share on social media. The exposure compensation may look a light bright, it also has heavy digitally noise reduction. The wide-angle camera does a good job, while the resolution is not high but colors are accurate in wide and main cameras. HDR images were over bright and exposure was highlighted.
The Reno4 Pro has more than normal night mode, as it improves with Ultra Night mode. The Tripod inside the Ultra night mode takes 30 seconds time to capture the shot but it delivers up to the expectation. And what it delivers is an exception which can be seen in the samples. The front camera capture detailed and accurate colours in daylight. It misses mostly in selfie portrait mode where detection is not clear. In lowlight also selfies are not that dramatic.

The camera offers AI Color Portrait which is to capture monochrome video or images with Red, Green and Blue colors picked automatically. It also has Night Flare portrait mode which gives lights in the background scene of the photo. You can 4K video from rear camera in 30fps, 1080p in 30 and 60 fps, the front shooter can record video in 1080p with 30fps max. The Reno4 Pro has Ultra Steady and Ultra Steady Pro options which will give better stabilisation while shooting videos. The Macro camera can be used by getting very close to a subject, but details won’t be quite as sharp.
Battery
The OPPO Reno4 Pro packs with 4000 mAh battery and in the box, it bundles with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 charger. The screen on time we got for the smartphone is around 5-6 hours with the 90Hz refresh rate including watching videos on Netflix, playing PUBG and doing some photography. The Reno4 Pro while charging from zero to 100 percent in just 35 minutes and 50 percent in just 13 minutes, which is an incredible and only smartphone available in India which gives blazing charging speed.
Gizmo Verdict
The Reno4 has a gorgeous design with a stunning display. It has a good camera to click photos and videos in a day, night situations. The battery in normal use can last for a day, else one always has an option of 65W Super VOOC 2.0 charging which can charge up to 100% in just 36 minutes. It is a smartphone for multimedia consumption, photographers but not for gamers. For the price, it gets tough competition from OnePlus Nord and Realme X3 which are more competitive with offering more features, better gaming performance but Reno4 Pro shines for the camera and 65W fast charging.
