Poco C75 5G: A Budget-Friendly Entry with Tough Competition

The Poco C75 5G is the latest addition to Poco’s budget lineup, succeeding last year’s C65. Essentially a rebranded version of the Xiaomi A4, the C75 5G introduces only minor design tweaks.

If you’re familiar with the Xiaomi A4, the C75 5G will feel quite similar. It features a 6.88-inch 720p LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset replacing the Helio G81 from the non-5G version, a 50MP main rear camera. Powering it all is a 5160mAh battery with 18W charging support.

Connectivity: 5G SA, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C
Miscellaneous: Side-mounted fingerprint reader, virtual proximity sensor

The Poco C75 5G is priced at INR 8,499, matching the Xiaomi A4 5G, raising questions about its competitive positioning.

Unboxing

The phone ships in basic packaging, including the handset, a USB-C cable, and a 10W charger. Unlike the Xiaomi A4, it doesn’t include a protective case or a higher-capacity 33W charger. While the C75 only supports 18W charging, the lack of a fast charger is still a disadvantage.

Design and Build

The Poco C75 5G features a familiar design shared with the Redmi A4 and Redmi 14C. It opts for a plastic back with a marbled texture, available in three colors. The frame is also plastic with a matte finish. On the front, the 6.88-inch display is surrounded by thick bezels and includes a teardrop notch for the front camera.

Key design elements:

  • Camera island: Four cutouts but only one functional camera.
  • Button placement: Volume buttons and power key (with integrated fingerprint sensor) on the right.
  • Ports: 3.5mm headphone jack on top, USB-C port, and loudspeaker on the bottom.

The back design impresses with its stylish marble finish, enhancing the plastic build’s visual appeal, while the IP52 rating offers basic protection against dust and water. Its large size might also be cumbersome for users with smaller hands.

Display

The C75 5G features a 6.88-inch IPS LCD with a 720p resolution and an impressive 120Hz refresh rate, offering smooth visuals in supported scenarios. With brightness levels of 450 nits (standard) and 600 nits (HBM), it ensures usability in various lighting conditions.

The display delivers reasonably accurate colors within the sRGB gamut, making it well-suited for everyday tasks. While it lacks HDR support and shows dimming at angles, its overall performance is reliable for browsing, streaming, and basic media consumption.

Cameras

The Poco C75 5G’s camera setup is impressive for its price, centered around a 50MP main sensor that delivers detailed and natural-looking photos. The images lean towards a neutral color profile with realistic contrast, making them ideal for those who prefer a more authentic look. The camera also offers a 2x digital zoom, which produces surprisingly usable shots for casual sharing or online viewing.

While the absence of optical or digital stabilization limits video quality, the still images captured in good lighting can rival those of higher-priced models in terms of sharpness and clarity. Night mode and portrait features add versatility, ensuring decent performance across various shooting conditions. For its segment, the Poco C75 5G provides a reliable camera experience that caters well to casual photography enthusiasts.

Software

Running Xiaomi’s HyperOS on top of Android 14, the Poco C75 5G promises two major Android updates. However, the presence of bloatware and potential ads detract from the experience. Thankfully, pre-installed apps can be uninstalled.

Battery and Charging

The 5160mAh battery ensures over a day of light to moderate use. However, charging is slow, even with a USB-PD charger, taking over two hours for a full charge. The included 10W charger exacerbates the wait.

Performance

Powered by the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset with 4GB RAM, the C75 5G offers modest performance. While sufficient for basic tasks like calls, messaging, and light browsing, it struggles with multitasking and resource-heavy apps.

  • 5G support: Airtel and Jio 5G works
  • Everyday use: It can handle multi-task easily without sweating
  • Gaming: High-end games may not deliver optimal performance, but it’s well-suited for casual and average gamers.

Gizmo Verdict

The Poco C75 5G is a solid choice for budget-conscious users seeking a large display, reliable battery life, and basic 5G connectivity. Its clean design, user-friendly interface, and decent performance make it suitable for everyday tasks like browsing, social media, and casual photography.
