Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is the successor of the J7. The major upgrades are the 3GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage and the FHD display. Samsung usually prices its device a bit above to other competitor but promises a good performance. The J7 Prime is priced at 18,450 INR, lets check out the device is really worth the price tag and able to beat the other devices with similar specs.
Design:
The J7 Prime features a full metal uni-body with a classic agronomic design. It is somehow similar to the previous version but the smooth and curved edges makes it to look more stylish. The smartphone is good in terms of size and weight and fits in a single hand usage.
The rear panel features a imprinted Samsung logo in the middle of the two segmented antenna line. the rear camera is just below the upper antenna line along with the flash.
The power key is stapled at the right edge of the smartphone apart from it,the volume rocker keys are at the left edges along with the two SIM card trays. the first one supports a micro SIM and a microSD card, the other one has one micro SIM tray.
The front panel has microphone, front camera and sensor at the top of the display along with the Samsung logo. At the bottom panel, there is a Home button in between two capacitive led lit buttons. the fingerprint sensor is placed on the Home key itself.
The smartphone has q quiet simple yet impressive design. It is durable and handy in use. As per the given price range it has a good build quality comparing to the other competitor.
Display:
The Galaxy J7 prime features a FHD 5.5inchIPS LCD display with 2.5D curved screen. It has display resolution of 1920×1080 pixel. On the top it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass protection. I really found the display quality very crisp and smooth at the same time. The display can be seen under direct sunlight and also with different viewing angles.
Specification and Performance:
The smartphone is powered by octa-core Exynos 7870 SoC clocked t 1.6GHz. It is supported by 3GB of DDR3 RAM along with Mali-T830 GPU. The user will get around 11GB of free storage out of 16GB, users need to add a microSD card to increase the storage. It supports up to 256GB microSD card slot .
The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with its custom UI on the top of it. The OS works very fine, In my usage the device free of lag and the response was very fast. There are very less number of bloatware in it. Out of 3GB RAM users get usually 1.6GB free RAM which works very fine and makes multitasking very easy.
The fingerprint sensor on the top of Home Key works absolutely fine and lets you to unlock device instantly. But I find that it doesn’t unlocks when your finger has any type of moisture, your finger needs to be dry.
Talking about the Gaming and benchmark performance, it scores 45504 and 21472 in AnTuTu and Quadratic Standard which is above average in terms of given specification. The processor handles the Gaming section with ease, I played Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8 in it and I didn’t find any type of lag in it. Although there is very minimal heating issue in it while playing game for a very long time but its usual so no need to worry.
Camera:
The smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel rear facing camera with f/1.9 aperture, Auto-focus and LED flash. It has features like HDR, Touch Focus, Panorama, Geo-Tagging and Beautify. The camera quality is impressive and shoots very descent images. Images contains good amount of detail and the colour reproduction is very fine. There is good amount of contrast and seems vivid in display. The low light performance of the device is also very good, although there is some noise in it. The camera works absolutely fine with the flash and shoots good images.
The front panel sports a 8-megapixel camera with f/1.9 aperture. The selfies taken by the camera has good amount of colour. It senses the number of faces and makes enhances them to give better image. The front camera also works good in low light but as-usual it has noise.
The given camera app in the smartphone has good amount of features as per the requirement. It allows the user to take 1080p HD video at 30fps. It also has Slo-Mo feature in it. Overall the camera app is minimal and good to use and makes works the camera very fine.
Battery and Connectivity:
The Galaxy J7 Prime is backed by 3300mAh of battery which gives user a very good battery backup. It gives me around 17 hours of usage with heavy usage, it includes movie and music playback, high end gaming and Internet usage, all in a 17 hours train route. I was really impressed with the battery life and at the end it also allows you change remaining battery to super-saving mode and extend the smartphone usage.
It has two SIM card slots and both accepts 4G LTE connectivity, there was no connectivity issue or any call drops in my usage. The smartphone works fine with all the bands and provides a good call and browsing quality.
Gizmo Verdict:
At the price tag of 18,450 INR it seems a touch call to buy but if you really want a promising branded smartphone with true performance you can definitely go for it. The specification is not best in this price range but the performance is impressive.
