Tecno Pova 6 Pro: A Month of Daily Use Reviewed

Introduction and Specifications

Released just six months ago, the Tecno Pova 5 Pro now has a successor, the Tecno Pova 6 Pro. Although the Pova 6 Pro is named as a minor refresh, it introduces substantial generational upgrades in several key areas including the display, battery, charging, memory, and camera. It maintains a similar price point, with a notable increase in storage capacity from the previous 128GB base configuration to 256GB by default.

Tecno Pova 6 Pro Specifications:

With these updates, the Pova 6 Pro now boasts a 120Hz OLED panel, a 108MP main camera replacing the older 50MP shooter, and an upgraded battery capacity from 5000 to 6000 mAh. Charging speeds are marginally faster, and reverse wired charging is supported.

The Dimensity 6080 chipset remains, delivering solid performance comparable to the Pova 5 Pro. The Pova 6 Pro also introduces IP53 dust and splash-proof certification, a new design, and retains the LED strips on the back.

Unboxing the Tecno Pova 6 Pro

Tecno continues to offer a generous retail package that includes user manuals, a charger, a cable, wired headphones, and a transparent silicone case for extra protection.

Design and Handling

The Tecno Pova 6 Pro retains its familiar “Mecha design language” with some updated ornaments and a revamped camera island. The LED strips are now thinner and more refined, and there’s an LED ring around one of the auxiliary camera sensors. These LEDs serve multiple functions such as notifications, calls, music, charging, and gaming. Available in Comet Green or Meteorite Grey, the phone showcases an industrial aesthetic with 3D-like elements visible beneath its transparent plastic back.

Despite its large 6.78-inch size and flat design, the handset is lightweight at just under 200 grams. The volume keys and power button are optimally placed, though the fingerprint reader at the bottom edge of the screen is awkward to reach. The overall build quality is good, with IP53 certification adding durability.

Display

The Tecno Pova 6 Pro features a 6.78-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, replacing the previous LCD. Although HDR video is not supported, the device is Widevine L1-compliant for high-quality streaming. The panel achieves 565 nits in manual mode and 1070 nits in auto mode under strong ambient light, ensuring good visibility. Four refresh rate modes (60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, Auto switch) are available, optimizing power consumption and performance.

Camera

The Pova 6 Pro features a triple-camera setup with a 108MP main sensor, 2MP depth sensor, and 0.08MP auxiliary sensor. The 32MP front camera is an upgrade over its predecessor. Daylight photos are decent with good colors and detail, but low-light performance and 3x zoom shots are less impressive. Video recording supports up to 1440p at 30fps, with excellent quality in good lighting conditions but noticeable noise in low light.

Battery Life and Charging Speed

The Tecno Pova 6 Pro excels in battery endurance with its 6000 mAh battery and efficient Dimensity 6080 SoC, achieving an impressive Active Use Score of 13:26h. The device supports 70W fast charging, restoring 65% charge in 30 minutes and 100% in an hour. Reverse wired charging at 10W is also supported.

Speakers

The hybrid stereo setup, borrowed from the Pova 5 Pro, delivers decent loudness but lacks bass and clarity at higher volumes.

Software and Performance

Running on Android 14-based HiOS 14, the Pova 6 Pro introduces new features such as Always-on display, updated icons, Game Space 4.0, smarter gallery search, and Dynamic Port 2.0. The device also includes an IR port for controlling home appliances.

The Dimensity 6080 chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, offers solid performance. The SuperCooled System 1.0 provides effective thermal management, maintaining maximum clock speeds without thermal throttling.

Gizmo Verdict

The Tecno Pova 6 Pro is a solid all-rounder with notable strengths in battery life, display quality, charging speed, and design. While low-light camera performance and the placement of the fingerprint reader could be improved, the device offers great value for its price.
