Vivo V9 Pro Review: A competitive smartphone under 20K

Almost every month we’ve been witnessing a new Vivo device in the Indian market. In case you forgot Vivo has presented its one of the first handset with Dual-Camera in the market known as the Vivo V9. Recently the brand has launched its successor in the market known as the Vivo V9 Pro. The handset comes with some serious refinements internally and externally both. A majority of users are confused that is it any good if updating from Vivo V9 or what handset to buy under this specific category.

Our today’s story will most probably answer all of your questions regarding Vivo V9 Pro handset. The design language of the smartphone is very similar to what its predecessor uses. The design of the device constructed of plastic so no Metallic or Glass design here. On paper, the internal specifications of the handset look promising and powerful so without making any delay let’s know more about it.

Design and Display

The design of the device looks quite inspired by the pre-existing Vivo devices and specifically its predecessor the Vivo V9. The device weighs and feels lighter at 150 grams and thickness of the device is around 7.9mm. In the front, a mammoth 6.3(inch) Full HD+ IPS LCD Display is present with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio. The pixel density of this panel is around 400ppi which is normal these days for a full HD+ screen. The display offers crisp details, vivid colors, and great contrast. The brightness could be better as in direct sunlight a user might face some difficulties. The display is protected by a 3rd Gen Corning Gorilla Glass which will protect it from damage up to a certain extent. The device provides you with 90% screen-to-body ratio which is great for the price. The bezels are quite thin at around 1.75mm.

Processor

It is the department where the device has received some serious improvements compared to its elder brother. Vivo V9 Pro comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660(64 bit) Octa-Core processor coupled with an Adreno 512 GPU for Gaming. The device is only available in one variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM, luckily the storage is expandable up to 256GB’s via micro-SD card. The performance offered by the Snapdragon 660 is buttery smooth and to be true you won’t face even a single lag in any process you go through. With the help of 6GB RAM multitasking becomes a cup of tea for Vivo V9 Pro. You can perform multiple tasks simultaneously with no lags. This was all about the daily performance, however, gaming is something in which you may have to compromise a little. It is probably one of the best devices for the price. You can play the latest games including PUBG, Asphalt 9 Legends, Modern Combat 5, etc at moderate graphics settings with almost zero glitches. However, if you are willing to spend a little more then Honor Play and Pocophone F1 even perform better.

Camera

Vivo V9 Pro houses a 13MP+2MP Dual-Camera setup in the rear. This camera has an aperture of f/2.2 on the main sensor while the secondary 2MP sensor is there to measure the depth information. Vivo Camera app provides all essential features including Panorama, Portrait Mode, HDR, Beauty, etc. Rear snappers are coupled with a Dual LED Flash and PDAF. In the front, a 16MP selfie shooter is provided with aperture f/2.0. There is no OIS so don’t expect smooth video recording from it. The device can do maximum up to 1080p 30fps from both front and rear cameras.

Battery and Miscellaneous

The device comes fueled by a 3260mAh battery but sadly it doesn’t support fast charging. There is a regular USB 2.0 port instead of a Type-C on the device for charging. That much battery on the device will get you through an entire day with moderate usage. Fortunately, there is a 3.5mm jack for audio. V9 Pro runs on FunTouch OS 4.O based on the Android 8.1 Oreo. The UI for most of the part seems deeply influenced by Apple’s iOS. It is a heavy skinned UI and sometimes it doesn’t feel like using an Android device. For most of the part its animations and all were smooth, however, at times you may see some lags.

Vivo V9 Pro is a great smartphone for the price of INR 17,990 and this festive season maybe you can get some great discounts on it as well. For this price, its major competitors are Honor 8X, Realme 2 Pro, Mi A2, etc. Vivo V9 Pro would be a great purchase from the offline market.
