Coolpad Cool Play 6 Review

The Cool Play 6 offers dual cameras, 6GB RAM and a 4,060mAh battery for less than Rs 15k!Following the trend, Coolpad recently launched its latest smartphone, the Cool Play 6 in the market. The smartphone comes with a dual 13MP rear camera setup, 6GB RAM and Snapdragon 653 SoC. Coolpad has given the Cool Play 6 an attractive price tag of 14999 INR. The smartphone seems a worthy opponent under the sub-Rs 15K range. Let’s check out how it performs in day-to-day usage and whether it’s a worthy buy.

Build and Design

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 seems like company’s own predecessor Cool 1 which was also priced similarly. It has a metal frame unibody, sturdy build and an impressive design language. The curved edges along with the 2.5D curved glass give it a firm grip while using. Despite the 4,000mAh battery, the device seems light in weight.

The rear panel consists of a dual-camera setup along with LED flash, available just below the antenna lines. The fingerprint sensor is placed just below the camera. A silver coloured Coolpad logo is engraved at the lower panel. The Type-C port and speaker grills are present at the bottom edge while the 3.5mm audio jack is at the top. The volume rocker is on the right along with the power key. The SIM card tray is on the left side.

The front panel has camera and sensors at the top of the display. The 5.5-inch display panel has considerably thick bezels around it. The three capacitive touch buttons are placed under the display. Overall, the design is pretty good and seems durable, even though it’s similar to other smartphones.

Display

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 features a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The colour reproduction is pretty good and offers impressive saturation levels. The icons seem crisp and attractive. The display can also be seen under different viewing angles. The sunlight readability however, is slightly disappointing and one needs to increase it up to the maximum.

Specifications

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 houses an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor coupled with 6GB of RAM. There is 64GB of onboard storage and can be expandable up to 128GB with hybrid slot. The USB Type-C port is great as it’s the future, and most of the devices in this segment lacks.

It ships with Android 7.0 Nougat UI with its new Journey UI on the top. The UI seems quite simple and helpful. There’s very less bloatware provided inside it. Although I prefer Stock Android over any custom UI, this one feels decent to use.

 

Camera

The dual 13-MP cameras along with LED flash shoots really impressive photos. It focuses really fast and captures good images. They have a good amount of details and the pixels doesn’t fade out while zooming in. The low light performance is good than most of the phones in this price segment.

The front camera is of 8MP, it also shoots decent selfies. The colour reproduction is good and the skin tones are also natural. One can enhance the quality with a variety of beauty modes, although I prefer the original one.

All the modes provided in the smartphone works very fine and helpful in most of the cases. The camera of this smartphone ddoesreally impress me, and it seems one of the best under Rs 15K.

Performance

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 performs very well in all of the processing aspects. It handles multitasking very well, and offers quick touch response, the apps run smoothly and the most importantly, it doesn’t lag at all. The 6GB of RAM works very well along with the provided SoC.

 

The gaming performance of the device is pretty good. It handles high-end games with great ease. I played Asphalt 8 and Dead Trigger 2, and the experience was awesome without any frame drop. The heating issue is very minimal and can be safely ignored.

The benchmark performance is good and it scores really well in different benchmarks. It scores 87610 in AnTuTu and 3526 in Quadrant Standard. The Geekbench score was, 1396 in Single Core and 4223 in Multi-Core.

The fingerprint sensor works very well and unlocks smartphone within a second. The audio and video quality is great and one can enjoy it as a multimedia phone. The 4G VoLTE connectivity also works fine and there was no network issue in it.

Battery

The 4,000mAh battery is managed well by the smartphone, and even with moderate usage, one can have almost 20 to 30 percent battery left at the end of the day. The minimal users can get up to two days of battery life with it. The amount of battery is quite sufficient for this smartphone.

Verdict

The Coolpad Cool Play 6 is surely a beast under Rs 15K range. It offers great performance, battery life, camera quality and a sturdy build. It’s surely one of the best phones in this range. If you want to look for other options, then there’s the Lenovo K8 Note and Xiaomi Mi A1.
