Oppo A3S Review

Oppo recently introduced its new budget smartphone Oppo A3S in the market at an attractive price tag of Rs. 10,990. The smartphone features some interesting features like 18:9 aspect ratio display with a notch on the top, Dual rear camera, and Glass Back. Apart from that, all other features are very basic and comparable to similar price range. Let’s see how the smartphone performs in the short period of time with us.

Design and Build:

The Oppo A3S features a glass back body which seems pretty premium. The edges are perfectly matched with the rear panel however the front panel seems bulgy. However, it covers up when you use the cover provided with the smartphone. The build quality is good as it simply made of metal frame and glass.

The rear panel has Dual camera sensors at the top right along with Single LED flash. An Oppo logo is engraved under the glass at the center segment. On the front, you’ll see a primary camera and other sensors at the notch. The SIM card tray is stapled on the left side of the edge along with volume keys while the power button is placed on the right side. The speaker grill, micro USB port, and 3.5mm Aux port are placed at the bottom side of the edge.

Overall the design is good and the ergonomic body is sturdy. The phone perfectly takes place on one’s hand and it can be easily be used with Single Hand.

Display:

Oppo A3S features a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720×1520 pixel resolution. The display is good and colorful to experience. The only problem we face the display is the adaptive brightness. We used to set the brightness manually most of the time, also the sunlight readability needs improvement too.

Specifications:

Oppo A3s is powered by 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor and it comes with 2GB of RAM. The phone comes with 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card and out of 16GB internal we got 8.73GB of free space which is very less as most of the app only occupy internal storage. We also notice that only 700-800MB of RAM is available most of the time.

On the software section, the Oppo A3s runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based its custom UI ColorOS 5.1 on the top of it. The UI offers a punchy colorful environment to the users. It also offers tons of customizations which let’s change its themes and icons etc as per your choice.

Performance:

The Oppo A3s offers decent performance with the paired SoC and RAM. The multitasking ability is average and we also find a bit slow touch response. We found the 2GB RAM works well if your need is only basics which are limited up to calls and entertainment.

The Gaming performance is also average. We played PUBG on it but the performance setting was on the lowest. The small games like Candy Crush and Subway Surfers work fine on it.

The benchmark performance was good as it scored 72115 in AnTuTu and 784/3761 in Geekbench single-core/multi-core. However, the scores were lower than the budget smartphone under 11k range.

The Face Unlock features works very well and we used it most of the times. But you’ll need the passcode or pattern at low light conditions. All the other features like 4G VoLTE connectivity and Audio/Video features works fine on this smartphone.

Camera:

The smartphone sports a dual camera setup of 13MP primary along with a 2-MP secondary camera. The camera is also supported by LEd Flash. The daylight performance of the smartphone is good and it captures photos with a good amount of details. The lowlight performance is average as the captured images have lots of noise in it.

The front selfie shooter is of 8-MP and it captures good selfies. It also has a beauty mode feature to enhance the color tone a bit to make selfies bright and natural. The given camera app in the smartphone has pretty basic features and modes.

Battery:

Oppo A3s is backed by 4230mAH lithium-ion battery. The battery capacity is above than the average smartphones and it offers almost 2 days of battery backup with moderate usage. It also lasted for 10 hours in our loop video test which is incredible. It lacks the fast charging ability but still, the battery capacity is more than enough to survive for 2 days.

Gizmo Verdict:

Oppo A3s

At a price point of Rs. 10,999, Oppo A3s offers superb design and amazing battery life. It also has the new features like notch design and face unlock. However, the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage make the performance slow. If you want a stylish phone just of everyday usage, you can go for it but if you want better performance there are several options in the market like Real Me 1 and Redmi Note 5.
