Moto Z2 Play: Complete Review

The best part is that it survived rain!

Moto Z2 Play is the new and successor of its previous modular device Moto Z Play. The smartphone comes at a price tag of 27,999 INR and has different types of mods support like JBL Soundboost, Moto Turbo Power pack, Moto Gamepad and many more. Here’s review of this device after 2 weeks of usage.

Design and Build:

The Moto Z2 Play comes has a slim slippery body but durable and good form factor. The edges are curved and rounded which gives it a classy look. The device seems light and comfortable to hold even its 5.5-inch size and metal body.

The rear panel has a bumpy camera which seems quiet odd but has a smooth and premium finish. There is a Moto in the centre and connection pins at the bottom of the rear panel.

The front panel has camera and sensors on the top and single home key at the bottom of the display. The Home key is integrated with the fingerprint sensor. The bezels around the display are not so thin but acceptable. The Type-C port and 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom, volume rocker and power key is on the right side and SIM card tray is on the left side of the edge.

One of of the best thing what I really want to add is the nano repellent coating, which helped me in rainy season and gives the comfort to use normally rather think of the smartphone will get damage.

Display:

Moto Z2 Play has a Full HD 1080p Super AMOLED display with 1920×1080 pixel resolution. The display is clear and sharp and colour comes out very well. It works under direct sunlight and even with different viewing angles.

Hardware and Software:

Moto Z2Play is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core 626 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz paired with Adreno 506 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It comes with 64GB of onboard storage and can be expandable up to 2TB via micro SD card.

It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with no additional UI, simply a pure Android experience. The UI looks minimal and has no additional bloatware in it. Although there are less customization features, which looks and works fine.

Performance:

The Moto Z2 Play works fine with the SoC inside its heart. There was hardly any kind of lag in multitasking and opening on apps. The touch response was smooth and responsive.

Gaming section of the device also performs well. Small games run effortlessly and Heavier Games also runs without any lag or drop. Played few high end graphics games like Asphalt 8 and Dead Trigger 2.

The Fingerprint sensor’s response was average and I struggled a bit to unlock the device. The calling and 4G VoLTE connectivity works well. I was using Airtel 4G Network with it and I didn’t find any type of drop in my usage. The Audio and Video quality of the smartphone is good and the speaker performs quiet efficiently.

Camera:

It sports a 12-megapixel camera which works amazing and shoots very decent photos. The captured images has good depth of details and colour reproduction. It focuses subject fast and shoots them. The lowlight images were also good but can be better. It has several modes like go live, panorama, slow-mo and many more.

The front shooter is 5-megapixel which also produces good images and has acceptable colour combination. Selfies were natural but the details were missing.

Battery:

Moto Z2 Play packs with 3000mAh of battery which lasts for a full day with moderate usage. Minimal users will surely get 2 day backup with it. It supports Moto’s Turbo Charging technology which charges up to 50 percent within less than 40 minutes.

Gizmo Verdict:

The Moto Z2 Play is a well-balanced and great smartphone in terms of design and performance. But the mods seems quiet priced up. If you want to use it without the mods you can surely go for it but there are better smartphone available in the market.
