Vivo, one of the fastest moving brand, introduced an In-Screen Fingerprint Scanner with Vivo X20 Plus UD. After that, they launched another device with certain added internal nuances but the technology remained the same i.e. Vivo X21 in China. Finally, Vivo X21 has been officially unveiled in India and is identical to the one which was announced recently in China. The smartphone takes lead with its In-Screen Fingerprint technology which isn’t available on any smartphone yet. This is the first time Vivo has presented a device in India that has crossed the 30K price mark.
Design and Build
At first glance, the device appears premium and expensive as it employs materials like Aluminum and Glass. In the front, there is a Display panel with a notch and a tiny chin at the bottom. The notch possesses a camera, earpiece, and other essential sensors while there is nothing present on the bottom chin. The weight of the device is slightly lighter then OnePlus 6 at 156 grams.
There is a 3.5mm jack on the top, the right-side houses Volume, and power switches and at the bottom (Micro USB port, SIM tray, Speaker grill) are present. Other than that, you will notice there is no Fingerprint Scanner on either side of the device as it is placed inside the display. In the rear, you will get a curved Glass panel with a Dual-Camera setup and Vivo branding.
Display
There is a 6.28(inch) Full HD+ Super AMOLED Display in the front. It looks promising as the colors are super punchy on it. Vivo’s homegrown UI has a lot of colorful elements and browsing them on this colorful panel is a true joy. The Display has curved edges and in overall, the display looks crisp and clear. The notch as mentioned earlier is present on the top and is quite similar to the one found on Vivo V9. The Fingerprint Scanner is placed inside the panel that empties the space from the rear and also adds to the functionality.
Camera
Camera module from the design point of view looks identical to Vivo V9, however, the Camera specs are totally different from it. In the rear, the handset houses a 12MP+5MP Dual-rear camera setup which is capable of delivering the much-demanded portrait mode shots. In the front, there is a 12MP selfie shooter and both cameras use AI to make your images more eye-catching. One can take portrait shots and 4K video from the front 12MP snapper as well. This time Vivo has avoided the megapixel race and instead of that, they have opted for a good quality sensor with better aperture values with dual pixel sensor technology.
Processor, RAM, and Storage
The device comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Octa-Core processor coupled with 6GB of RAM, hence making the device processor quite powerful. Also, it has an Adreno 512 GPU for Gaming. For storage, it offers 128GB of storage that can be further expanded via hybrid SIM tray. The storage it offers is more than enough and we don’t think that anyone will further need an SD-card to expand it. Battery and OS
Vivo X21 runs on a 3200mAh battery with Vivo’s own Fast Charging technology. Luckily the device comes with a fast charger inside the box. The handset runs on Vivo’s homegrown FunTouch OS 4.0 based on the Android 8.1 Oreo. FunTouch OS is easy to understand and a user will become used to it in a day or two.
Vivo generally enjoys the advantage of launching the devices in the mid-budget segment but this time they have gone with a different strategy. Considering the price, Vivo X21 has to compete with the rivals including Honor 10, OnePlus 6 and the upcoming Xiaomi Mi8.
