LG G7+ ThinQ Review: One of the Best Smartphone of 2018 | GizmoManiacs

LG G7+ ThinQ Review: One of the Best Smartphone of 2018

LG G7+ ThinQ is the latest flagship smartphone by LG electronics. This smartphone features high-end specifications like Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 6GB RAM and 6.1-inch QHD+ display. With such specification, the smartphone is priced at Rs. 39,990. The price seems a bit higher than the affordable flagship OnePlus 6 which is priced at only Rs. 29,990. Let’s see if the price point justifies the performance Lg G7+ ThinQ is providing to us or not.

Design and Build:

Just like most of the flagship smartphones, LG G7+ ThinQ also features a metal body with glass back. But unlike the other, this smartphone is pretty slim and elegant in build. The metal body giver a durable strength while the slim body with glass back offers premium finish. The only con here is the slippery back panel which slips regularly.

Apart from that, the rear panel sports a Dual Camera set up along with Dual LED flash at the top center. A G7+ ThinQ logo engraved under the glass back and an LG Logo at the lower panel. On the front, we have a small notch at the top containing all sensors a small microphone. The bezels are also very thin and offer a crisp display.

Its one of the best smartphone I’ve seen in 2018 with a great ergonomic body. The build and design, all are up to the mark. Its lightweight and slim which makes it a perfect choice for the users.

Display:

LG G7+ ThinQ features a 6.1-inch QHD+ display 2K display with 3120x1440p resolution and 564ppi pixel density. This is one of the few brands offering a 2K resolution with brightest smartphone displays in the market. The sunlight readability is amazing as well as the crispness and vibrant viewing angles.

Hardware and Software:

LG G7+ ThinQ features a 2.8GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The smartphone also supports 2TB microSD card slot for expanding the storage. It comes with Water & Dust Resistance IP68 rating and MIL-STD 810G standard compliant. That means it can stand a fall from 1.8 meters or more than 5 feet onto concrete.

LG G7+ ThinQ runs on Android 8.1 Oreo-based LG’s UX 6.0 on top of it. The UI on the smartphone is one of the best and super responsive. I really loved all the settings and customizations it offers. It offers to add an extra button on the navigation panel which is good. The UI is clean and elegant, and there are very fewer bloatwares on the smartphone.

Performance:

The smartphone is super fast and offers power-packed performance. The response time is very fast and the app process time is also very less. The multitasking ability is also great. In short, the Snapdragon 845 SoC and 6GB of RAM are providing a remarkable performance to the users.

The benchmark score on this smartphone is super impressive. It scored 239480 in AnTuTu while the Geekbench score was 2392/8432 in Single-Core and Multi-Core. These scores are one of the best although it’s not on the top but its good. Benchmarks core certainly gives us a brief info about the hardware processing but the real-life performance is what matters most.

The gaming section also shines on LG G7+ ThinQ. We played high-end games like PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9 and Moden Combat on this smartphone. The smartphone started the game instantly and there was no lag while the gameplay. A minor heating issue was there if the gameplay exceeds the limit of half an hour.

The Audio and Video quality of the smartphone is really impressive. It has a 2K display with Hi-Fi Quad DAC, which supports high-quality audio on your wired headphones. The user can choose from filters like Short, Sharp, and Slow to enhance your audio experience. It takes gaming and entertainment experience to the next level.

On the biometrics panel, the smartphone has three different security options. The first one is basic, a Fingerprint sensor. The second one is Face Recognition as all the smartphone nowadays has this feature. The third option is Voice Recognition, which is relatively new to unlocking the smartphone. Users can unlock the smartphone by saying the exact phrase or word used they set.

The connectivity section is also good and we didn’t find any type of call drop issue in our usage period. We used Airtel 4G on the first and Jio 4G on the second. It supports LTE on both and smartphone also has an option to charge primary sim by tapping the switch button on the navigation panel. Apart from that it also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Android Beam and Type-C. All of the options work absolutely fine on this device.

Camera:

LG G7+ ThinQ sports a dual camera setup of a 16MP+16MP rear camera with f/1.9 and f/1.7 aperture supported with dual LED flash. The camera captures color-rich images with great in-depth details. The images look vibrant and the saturation level is perfectly balanced. It also offers a wide-angle lens option, has AI on board along with Portrait mode and Google Lens. The AI mode can be enabled or disabled as per your choice.

The low light images of the smartphone are also good. the captured images have bit noise but overall the images look great. On the front, it is equipped with an 8MP camera and f/1.9 aperture. It also captures good selfies with natural

color tone. It also has Stickers, color modes and beautifies option for selfies. The UI of the camera app is simple and easy to use. The app has all the settings option for the camera within reach so you can customize it as per your choice.

The Google Lens integration is great and it helps you to detect objects. The AI provided in the camera is good but needs an update. It scans and selects modes automatically but the changes/improvements it brings to the images are not that great. I found the images to be saturated and ultra sharp in tone.

Battery:

The smartphone features a 3000mAh of battery which may seem a bit low comparing to the high consuming SoC the smartphone has. We found the same drawback in our usage too. After a full charge, we only find 8 hours of battery life with moderate usage which is less. The high-end performance drains the battery under 5 hours which is terrible. Although LG tried to compensate it with the Quick Charge 3.0 charging technology still the battery size could have been a bit more.

Gizmo Verdict:

If we see the specification and performance of the new LG G7+ ThinQ, it’s remarkable. This is one of the best smartphones with high capabilities yet underrated. It covers all the aspect starting from design, builds, and usability. The only drawback of this smartphone is the low battery life. If you wish to get this smartphone you can surely go for it. But if Price point and battery are the important features of your choice, you can go for other options like OnePlus 6 or Huawei Nova 3.
