When it comes to the smartphone market, the budget segment is the hottest with innumerable sales. There is a lot happening in the budget smartphone market. Brands like Realme, Xiaomi, Nokia, etc are already on a war to defeat each other. Recently Motorola has decided to step out and compete in the cram-full market. In case you folks don’t know Motorola has just unveiled their fresh Moto One Power handset in India. Undoubtedly it one of the best a user can get from the house of Motorola. We’ve already covered its launch and finally, the device is in our lab for a review.
Our today’s story is targeted to users who are looking for a new affordable smartphone or are confused between enormous options. Considering the on-paper specifications Motorola One Power seems to be a promising device. Similar to almost every handset of this segment the device closely borrows design elements from the iPhone X. With this handset Motorola has tried to provide a little of everything from performance to battery life. So without wasting any time let’s know this device inside out.
Design
The device looks robust with an all Metallic design. It does resemble us of the Redmi Note 5 Pro from the rear panel. The Dual-Camera setup in the rear is in the vertical orientation and one can also notice a Fingerprint Scanner there. Surprisingly keeping the space empty Motorola has placed its logo on the Fingerprint Scanner which is appreciable. The 3.5mm audio jack is present on the top whereas the power button and the speaker sits at the bottom. The power button and volume rockers are present on the right where a SIM tray is provided on the left side. The device has a notch in the front which houses Proximity Sensor, Front Camera, an LED Flash, and an earpiece speaker.
Display
The handset sports a 6.2(inch) Full HD+ Display which contributes to 81.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display is in 18.7:9 aspect ratio and offers a pixel density of 402ppi. The display delivers accurate colors and is sharp enough make you flaunt your device. The device supports HD content on Netflix. The Display does have a bottom chin and a notch on the top. Motorola’s hard work can be seen here, the device has slimmer bezels which gives it an expensive look. The brightness levels of the display are satisfactory which make its sunlight legibility good.
Performance and Software
Under the hood Motorola One Power sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 (64 bit) Octa-Core processor coupled with an Adreno 509 GPU for Gaming. The device will be made available in two variants i-e 3GB RAM+32GB ROM and 4GB RAM+64GB ROM. Fortunately, the following variants support expandable storage up to 256GB’s via micro-SD card. In our tests, the performance of the device is buttery smooth. All high-end games including Asphalt 9 Legends, Modern Combat 5, PUBG ran fluidly. From scrolling through Instagram to Facebook everything was super easy. It is an Android One device and comes powered by Android 8.1 Oreo. The user interface is neat and easy to understand. Motorola has also claimed that the device will receive Android P update soon. This device also offers all traditional Moto gestures including chop-chop for triggering LED Flash, rounder gesture for opening Camera, etc.
Camera
Moto One Power sports a 16MP(Aperture f/1.8)+5MP(Aperture f/2.2) Dual-Camera setup in the rear with PDAF, LED Flash whereas in the front a 12MP(Aperture f/2.0) Camera is provided with a LED Flash as well. The camera on paper appears to be great but in our tests, it lies between average and below average rating. In daylight situations the camera performed good but we were expecting something more than this. Getting in low light the performance even gets worse. Low light images contain grains, less clarity, etc. Moto One Power offers multiple modes including portrait, panorama, pro, etc. We would say that edge detection in the portrait mode was on point. The device can shoot 1080p videos from the rear cameras up to 60fps whereas the front snapper can only do 1080p videos at 30fps.
Battery and miscellaneous
One of the biggest segment where this device has an extra edge in the battery department. Moto One Power sports a massive 5000mAh battery with the support of Turbo Charge. This technology can charge your device up to 100% in just 1 hour and 10 min. In this department, no other device can overshine this. The device sports a USB Type-C port for charging which is in trend these days. Moto One Power supports all connectivity features including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5, A-GPS, GLONASS, FM Radio, etc.
Conclusion
Motorola One Power comes with a price tag of INR 15,999. The device is great for the price but it could be a better option if Motorola has focused on the device’s camera. The battery capacity on this device is humongous and is hardly available on any other option. We would say if your key priority is camera then avoid this and go for the Redmi Note 5 Pro or the Mi A2.
