Banking on this impending urge to deliver a value proportional to the masses, Samsung launched the M-series devices. The top of the line M30 marks the farfetched end of the M-series –Targeted at the millennial class of Indian economy.
Samsung seems to be quite enticed with the positive aspects of the online sales, hence the M-series is proprietarily exclusive to Amazon and will be online only offering of the brand. The Galaxy M30 sits right between the A30 and M20 announced recently. It packs a top-notch display, a massive battery and a stellar finish. But how does it stack against the rivals such as Redmi Note 7 Pro? let`s find out!
Screen & Built
Right of the back, the M30`s massive SUPER AMOLED FHD+ display grabs your undivided attention with its stunning looks. This tightly packed display renders an immersive viewing experience with its 90% screen-to-body ratio and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
The front camera cutely protrudes from the top in shape of a U-type notch. The back panel is made out of plastic but a colour gradient scheme helps it stand out from the crowd. The phone is very sleek coming in at just 8.5 mm, this coupled with a slippery texture makes it cumbersome to handle, however, this can be fixed using a TPU or Rubber case. Charging port sits at the bottom with an eccentric down firing speaker.
Performance
The Galaxy M30 houses the same Exynos 7904 14nm chipset that we saw on the Galaxy M20. This is a mediocre chipset which is considerable margin when compared to the Snapdragon 660 or 675 chipset. It fairs through everyday tasks with the breeze and handles challenges with a quality finesse.
It comes with a 4GB + 64 GB and 6GB + 128GB of storage option which provides adequate space for all your apps. These apps also include Samsung`s own bloatware apps that enhance the user experience by a slight notch. It handled every difficult task we threw at it with ease and also rendered a decent FPS when we sailed through some intensive game titles like PUBG, Asphalt and MC5.
Security wise it included a full-fledged fingerprint sensor on the back and a face unlock feature. In our opinion, the placement of the fingerprint sensor could have been better as it becomes difficult at times to locate the fingerprint sensor due to the massive proportions. The responsiveness of the fingerprint sensor is blazing fast to unlock.
The software of the Galaxy M30 is a blended mix of Samsung Experience UI and One UI. It’s based on Android Oreo with a promised upgrade to Android Pie that’s underworking.
Camera
The Galaxy M30 comes with triple camera setup of the 13MP+5MP+5MP ultra wide lens that differentiates it from the M20. This camera bump entails the images to offer a lot of depth and focus on the objects in motion.
Quality of images resembles that of the Galaxy M20, as images were decent with adequate light exposures and accurate colour reproduction. Pictures came out life like with the right amount of saturation and gamut level we were hoping for. Portrait mode in the M30 is stellar as the blur control through Brokeh effect was spot on and provided some stunning images under all situations.
Our love for the camera unit attenuated with the intensity of light. The images under low light suffered from a bit of background noise that flooded in throughout the image. Overall the camera quality was top notch under sufficient light and might appeal to the social media freaks any day.
Battery
Power comes through an ultra-massive 5000mAh battery which is dubbed to last ages. All said we were amazed by the battery density as it managed to deliver 37 hours of average use of a bit of gaming, social media and occasional clicks.
Goodies include a Widevine L1 certification that helps stream HD content and Dolby ATMOS 360-degree surround sound for a candid movie watching experience.
Gizmo Verdict
The Galaxy M30 is the best device one could opt for as it ticks all the right boxes. We loved the flawless performance the device delivered and its consistent overall usage. The camera being the highlight of our review, we just couldn’t get enough of it.
We strongly recommend this device for a person willing to spend about 15K for a battery heavy smartphone that you could count on.
