Google I/O 2019 – AR in Google Search, Updated Google Lens and Google Go App

Google just made some significant announcement to its Google Seach engine, Google Lens Camera, Computer Vision and Augmented Reality at 2019 I/O. Let’s check out the improvements one by one.

AR in Google Search

Google Search will now support AR as users can view and interact with 3D objects right from the Search app and place them directly into their own space. Google teamed up with NASA, New Balance, Samsung, Target, Visible Body, Volvo, Wayfair to name a few, in a bid to surface their own content in Search for this new feature. Users can get a 3D AR model of the things they search in the Knowledge Panel. It will start rolling the AR support later this month on the Google Search App.

Updated Google Lens App

The new and updated Google Lens can now provide visual answers to visual questions. Google Lens can automatically highlight the dishes that are popular on the physical menu and its reviews by overlaying a visual indicator on the screen.

Google Lens on Google Go

Google Go will get support for Google Lens in a bid to aid people in reading. Users can point their camera at a particular text as the app relays the data in form of speech obviating the need to read. It also highlights the words as the user speaks to help follow along and understand the full context of what they see. The feature will be first launched in Google Go across compatible phones even as low as $50 and the app just weights over 100KB.
