Redmi 1s was a game changer in entry level smartphone!
Since the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi 2, it is one of the best smartphone under 7000 INR. It’s almost same as the predecessor Redmi1S but have lots of upgraded specs. After the success of Xiaomi Resmi1S they closed the sale and when its demand rises between the users they brings the Redmi 2 to fulfill the market.
Build and Design:
The differences are very less in terms of looks and design between the Redmi 2 and Redmi1S. Both have nearly same screen size, and have slightly difference in weight. Redmi 2 is lighter than Redmi 1S.
The front panel has camera and primary mic at the top of the screen. The capacitive buttons under the screen is red coloured and feels difficult to locate in dark. Notification LED is there under the home button but remains hidden until there is some notification or the phone is on charging.
The rear panel has a silver colour MI logo at the bottom side, camera flash and speaker. The Redmi 2 comes with smooth and shiny hard plastic back body, similar as the Redmi Note 4G. The corners are curved in shape and the smartphone feels really comfortable in one hand.
The volume rocker keys and power button is on the right side of the phone. The 3.5mm audio jack is at the top and microUSB port at the bottom of the smartphone.
Display:
The Redmi 2 has 4.4-inch display with 1280×720 pixel resolution. The screen has good vibrant display. The display icons on the screen are well. The viewing angles are good on the device but under the sunlight it faces some difficulty.
Hardware and Software:
The smartphone is powered by 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC with 1GB of RAM. It has Adreno 306 GPU for the better graphics. It has 8GB of inbuilt memory and can be expandable up to 32GB via microSD.
It runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with its own MIUI 6 on the top. The skin on the android makes the phone more colourful and vibrant than the stock devices. The inbuilt UI is very impressive and works fine.
The smartphone comes with very less bloatware. The phone comes with some of the tools like Compass navigation, Scanner, Recorder and FM. The high quality themes available are amazing to use.
The Redmi 2 is a Dual SIM smartphone which supports both 4G LTE network which is a great advantage. Other connectivity options available are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS and OTG.
Camera:
The rear facing comes with 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and the front one with 2-megapixel. The rear camera shoots really amazing shoots in day light as well in low light mode. The LED works perfectly with the camera.
The autofocus is little slow and take some time to focus before you take shoot. The details and quality was amazing in the photos. The colour productivity was also good. The front camera is quiet acceptable and took descent photos in day light. The camera app given is pretty useful to take perfect shots and have option like filters to make the photos more beautiful.
Performance:
The performance and response are good with simple use but we faced some lag in opening and closing app while multitasking. The phone shows some heating issue when using it for long time. The smartphone is good for the entry level games. Asphalt 8 runs smoothly but shows lag while starting the game.
The AnTuTu and Quadrant Standard give 19901 and 11516 scores respectively. The scores we got are good with such specs. The speaker at the back gives good sound. The smartphone have lots of customisation for the audio and the earphones. The call quality of the device is good and we don’t face any call drop.
The 2200mAh battery gives a good battery life to the smartphone and last for day. It gives 14 hours battery life in moderate use and can be give a full day life for simple user.
Gizmo Verdict:
The overall smartphone performance is good and you can go for it. The key feature of the device is battery life and performance. The camera also shoots nice photos. If you want a budget phone with great performance, this is the best in such price range. If you want other option you may can go for Moto E (2nd Gen) or Lenovo A6000.
