Nokia 2.4 Review – Sticking to the basics

Nokia is all over the news recently and bit super active in the past few months. Nokia is all about the best Android Experience in a beautiful body. The latest smartphone by them is Nokia 2.4 and it is a worthy upgrade over Nokia 2.3 which includes specs bump. The Nokia 2.4 is a smartphone to buy or note let’s check out

Display and Design

The Nokia 2.4 has a 6.5-inch HD+, 720p resolution LCD display. It does a decent job for the day-to-day app in use. The colors are little dull in direct sunlight as the panel is not enough bright. It has a thick chin in the bottom edge.

The Nokia 2.4 comes with a familiar Nokia budget design, made of plastic. The back panel has a matte texture and it is not a compact phone, weighs around 191 grams with 9mm thickness. We got the Fjord color variant which is kind of bluish tone, it is elegant in look. The overall build quality and sturdiness feel a bit plastic back of the phone.

Nokia has done a good job with camera module flushed in the back, it has a physical fingerprint scanner which was not present in Nokia 2.3. The smartphone has a triple card slot with two SIM slots and one memory card slot.
Nokia is still offering Micro-USB charging port in 2020 which is a bit strange. It has power and volume rocker keys on the side. it has a single bottom-firing speaker which is not among the good one against any competition. The loudness is not sufficient neither it is punchy, the 3.5mm port will be useful to keep the headphones nearby as it will be handy.

Hardware and Software

The Nokia 2.4 comes with 3GB of LPDDR4x RAM with 64GB of eMMC type internal storage. Nokia could have gone with 4GB RAM and it packs with MediaTek Helio P22 processor. The processor is mediocre and it is a two-year-old SoC which is kind of compromise but it let you play light games like Subway surfer etc and handle everyday app usage easily.
One of the best thing that Nokia offers to the user is the cleanest software experience of Android. The smartphone doesn’t feel laggy nor sluggish compared to MIUI, FuntouchOS or Color OS which are heavier UI. The smartphone doesn’t let you down in daily usage. Nokia promise for two years of Android upgrades as a part of the Android One program. Android 11 is still missing as it is running on Android 10, so you can expect it to arrive sooner on Nokia 2.4.

Camera

The camera isn’t a big deal in Nokia 2.4 as it has 13MP + 2MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. The rear camera performs decent enough in sunlight, colors aren’t washed out. The dynamic range came out well, although few have images have softer color tones. There is night mode is present but it doesn’t work that much except making images brighter. The selfie camera fails on expectation and can’t compare with any 10K mark camera segment range.

Battery

The Nokia 5.4 packs with 45000 mAh battery, if compared with other smartphone brands 5000 mAh plus batteries. But the smartphone manages to deliver 8.5 hours of SoT in a span of one and a half days. In the box, we get a 5W charging adapter which takes 4.5 hours to charge from 0 to 100. Even in 2 hours, the user can get a 60% battery but in 2020 we can expect a fast charger to charge a big battery.

Gizmo Verdict

The Nokia 2.4 isn’t a bad option as the user gets good looking design with a big display, best Android Experience and a big battery. But if you compare with the competition the compromise is in the processor, HD display, slow charging speed with a non-fast charging adapter, micro USB port and average cameras. It does miss out the macro camera like other competitions. If you want a reliable smartphone with pure Android to feel for the day-to-day experience and a trusted brand than definitely Nokia 2.4 is a worthy option.
