Qubo Smart Indoor Camera by Hero Electronix: Review

Hero Electronix a technology venture of Hero Group is marking its territory into smart home devices. The company hopes to build a technology ecosystem that is focused on creating good consumer products and robust enterprise solutions. The company announced this new approach with the arrival of their Qubo Smart IoT devices repertoire.

The first in this line-up of these Zigbee powered devices is the Qubo Smart Indoor Camera. The device comes with a 2.8-inch TFT LCD display and a camera unit capable of shooting 140° field of view. It packs a dual far-field Mic system with support for Echo Cancellation and Active Noise Reduction technology. It’s powered by a Qualcomm APQ 8053L Octa-Core Processor for running a series of build-in Alexa functions.

Features

Looking at the features, this new Indoor Camera undertakes several tasks such as:

  • Remote Monitoring: To check the live feed of your home or office and can be changed to different modes (Home, Away and Night) manually
  • Wide angle Field of View 140° camera to capture more
  • 2-Way Talk Mode: To help you engage with the people at your home
  • Auto-Trigger Siren: To scare away intruders in case the camera detects a break in
  • AI-powered Baby cry alert: Issues an alert when it detects a sound of a crying baby.
  • Night Vision: To detect activities even at night time and works like charm
  • It has light that glows in different color for different options
  • Speaker output is loud and clear
  • In app connectivity is easy with Android and iOS devices. The app interface is easy to do setup
  • Mic records audio output loud
  • Micro SD card support for feed storage

User can access the several modes via the build-in Alexa commands to created tailored routines. The Qubo Smart Indoor Camera can also function as a standalone Smart Home Hub to actively manage and control your devices. These devices include smart sensors that address different aspects of a smart home ecosystem. While connecting it shows Green Light, without the internet it shows a red light and while hearing voice command or playing speaker will have blue light glowing.

There is a Qubo Smart Door/Window sensor that can be hooked on a door or a window to trigger an alert if someone tries to break in while you are away. Next comes the Qubo Smart Gas sensor which detects gas leakage and pings you on the Qubo app, and lastly comes the Qubo Smart Smoke sensor that detects smoke and quickly issues an alert on the app.

This array of devices effortlessly addresses the various aspects of a smart home ecosystem. The complete package serves as a one-stop solution to all your needs in regards to control and security. The prices are set to be announced but we expect the devices to be priced aggressively considering the arrival of big names such as Reliance Jio and Syska in this growing IoT Smart home space.

Cons

Despite being at the realm of improvised smart home systems, the Qubo suffers from the same cons as with other smart home systems such as,

  • Continuous Power Input (No Battery backup)
  • Uninterrupted Internet Access
  • Privacy Shutter on Camera Lens
  • Touchscreen display is TFT and gets scratch easily
  • Build Quality doesn’t give premium finish (you can find gum on the edges)
