Smartron tphone P Review

Smartron is back again with its new budget smartphone tphone P. The USP of the smartphone is the 5000mAh of battery and is priced at just Rs. 7,999. Apart from the battery, tphone P comes with decent specifications in the 10k budget range. Let’s see how it performs in our review period and where it stands in comparison to others.

Design and Build:

The tphone P has a different design with comparing to the tphone which was launched a year ago but similar to most of the devices coming these days. It has a full metallic uni-body with curved edges and smooth back. The build is sturdy still the bigger battery makes it bit heavy to hold and use.

The size of the smartphone is good and can be used with a single hand. The rear panel features a rear camera and flash at the top along with Antenna Lines. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the centre while the tphone logo is at the bottom. On the front, all camera and sensors are at the top of the display. The display is simple unlike the trend of thin bezel and Full View display. The three LED backlit buttons are placed below the display panel.

The speaker grills are at the bottom side of the edge along with the USB charging port. The 3.5mm Audio Jack is at the top while the SIM card tray is stapled on the left side of the edge. The Power button and the Volume rocker keys are on the right side. Overall the design is simple and elegant.

Display:

The tphone P features a 5.2-inch HD display with 1280×720 pixel resolution. The display is not the best but still offer good contrast. It can be seen under direct sunlight but users will struggle to see the screen with different viewing angles.

Specification:

The tphone P is powered by an Octa-core processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 (4×1.4GHz +4×1.1GHz). There is 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which is expandable by up to 128GB with the provided Hybrid Slot. It’s a dual-SIM device but has a hybrid second SIM slot, you can either use two Nano-SIMs or one Nano-SIM and a microSD card. The connectivity options are 4G, VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, GPS, and GLONASS support.

The smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The UI seems clear and elegant just like the stock Android. There are only preinstalled Google apps and few bloatware like t.cloud, t.care and t.store. There are few customizations available on the top of stock which makes it attractive and user-friendly.

Performance:

The provided SoC with the paired 3GB of RAM works pretty fine. Multitasking works fine and the touch response is quick. Apps can run simultaneously without any lag. The gaming section performance is average. The entry-level games like Subway Surfer work absolutely fine. The high-end games like Shadow Flight 3 and Asphalt 8 takes a bit time to load and lag in gameplay. Heating is an issue for heavy gamers.

The benchmark performance of the device is acceptable. It scored 46523 in AnTuTu and 674(Single-Core) while 2623(Multi-Core) in Geekbench. The fingerprint sensor works fine. The audio and video quality is good but the speakers sound quality could be better. The 4G LTE connectivity works fine and I didn’t find any type of distortions or signal issues in my usage.

Battery:

The 5000mAh of battery offers more than 3-day battery life with single full charge. A user can use its battery as a charging source for other devices which comes in handy at several places. In loop video test it lasted for 20+ hours which shows its capability. The power section of this device is really impressive.

Camera:

Smartron tphone P sports a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies. There are very few modes available in the camera app like Manual, Beautify, Time-Lapse, Panorama and Multi-Exposure. The rear camera captures good images comparing to the smartphones with similar range. Although the details and colour representation could be better.

The front camera captures decent selfies with good colour tone and balance. It supports 720p video recording but the quality is not up to the mark.

Overview:

Smartron tphone P is a great value for money smartphone with the given specification and price tag. The 5000mAh of the huge battery is the main USP along with the sturdy built. If you want a decent smartphone with good capabilities with budget pricing, you can surely go for it.
