Tecno Camon i4: Affordable triple camera smartphone

The smartphone market in India is as saturated as it gets, with big tech companies bidding their prowess & attempting to encapsulate the market in its entirety. Amid such heated rivalry, there are some companies who wish to enter this arena and distinguish a class for themselves. While many lose out at the end, some battle their way to lay the important groundwork.

Tecno Mobile – a Hong Kong-based company launched their latest device the Tecno Camon i4. Going by the name it’s hard to decipher its actual lineage. The device is launched in three variants but we got the 2GB+32GB priced at Rs 9,599.

Let’s play around and find out what it has to offer.

Display and Build

The Tecno Camon i4 flaunts a traditional glass-like design with a dot notch display. The device sports a 6.2-inch display with a resolution of 720×1520 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The HD+ display may sound a little outdated when compared with the competitors. The back is made of polycarbonate to keep the cost low and weight minimal, this, however, attracts a lot of fingerprints. The overall design is well balanced at 141 grams and looks classy with the given colour options like the Midnight Black, Champagne Gold, Nebula Black, and Aqua Blue.

Processor

It’s powered by a 2GHz quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 processor coupled with 2GB + 32GB of internal storage. This entry-level chipset delivers average performance.

The Tecno Camon i4 runs a HIOS 4.6 skin with Android 9.0 Pie underneath it which delivers a good user experience with a little jitter what so ever.

Camera

The back has a triple camera setup of a 13MP+2MP+8MP camera with built-in wide angle shots. Front packs a 16MP snapper with AI beauty mode to detect 228 facial points for best in class selfies.

In day to day use age the camera setup feels quite adequate to snap some stellar images. The images came out well-lit with exposure levels right in the ballpark of what we expected. However, as night fell the camera suffered from grain and susceptible noise that crept into the pictures.

The selfie camera performed well to render great Instagram selfies under adequate sunlight.

Battery

This dual sim device is powered by a 3,500mAh battery unit which lasts a day worth of use age. Its packs a so-called Rocket Charging feature that claims to provide two hours’ worth of calling from just 10-minute charge. In our testing, the smartphone performed flawlessly for an entire day with 15% battery to spare.

Conclusion

The Tecno Camon i4 is a smartphone if you want a decent device under a shoestring budget. It is sure to fulfil all your smartphone needs with some compromises. With a solid camera and a good battery life, the company has bagged our attention as a name to look out for.
