Vivo Y69 complete review

The Y69 offers one of the most powerful selfie cameras in this segment!

Vivo brings its another selfie-centric smartphone in the market, the Y69. The USP of the smartphone is the 16MP selfie camera with moonlight glow. As we can see the selfie craze has gone to extreme levels, and a good selfie camera is among the top priorities while selecting a smartphone. The Vivo Y69 seems a pretty good deal in the budget range. Let’s check out in its review to see whether it’s a good option to buy or not.

Build and Design

The design is pretty similar to all Vivo smartphones, metal unibody with curved edges and rounded corners. The design and build is sturdy. One can hold it with a single hand, but the 5.5-inch display makes it difficult to operate single-handedly.

The rear panel has a rear camera and flash at the top and silver coloured Vivo label engraved at the centre. The Volume keys are at the right side of the edge along with power key. The speaker grill, 3.5mm audio jack and a micro-USB charging port are at the bottom edge. The SIM card tray is stapled on the left side of the edge while the top edge is free. The front panel has camera and sensors at the top, and the home key is at the bottom along with two capacitive LED backlit keys. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the home button itself.

Overall the design is basic yet solid. The weight of the smartphone is well balanced. The smooth rear panel makes it slightly slippery, but still, its finishing makes the device feel impressive.

Display

The Vivo Y69 features a 5.5-inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. Maybe it’s the effect of their colourful UI but still, despite the low resolution, the display is vivid and crisp. The display is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Protection 3 on the top of it. The sunlight readability is good and one can clearly see the screen irrespective of the viewing angles.

Specifications

Powering the Vivo Y69 is an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. The storage can be expandable up to 256GB via hybrid card slot. It supports 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi.

It runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with Funtouch OS 3.2 on the top of it. The UI is friendly and offers numerous customisation features. It doesn’t have any bloatware which is great.

Performance

The provided chipset works very well with the paired RAM. It offers a lag-free usability and multitasking experience. The touch response is also very good. One can switch apps and games easily without any lag. The gaming performance of the device is good, and the high-end games ran smoothly. Although I found the frame rates being dropped a bit, if the gameplay is long and continuous.

The benchmark performance of the Vivo Y69 is good and it scores decently in all the benchmarks. The Geekbench score is 606 in single core and 2031 in Multi-core. The AnTuTu and Quadrant Standard score was 32,018 and 15,396.

The fingerprint sensor works fine and unlocks the smartphone almost every time. The 4G VoLTE works very well and there were no call drops either. The audio and video quality could be a little better, as I feel the speaker performance was bit weak and distorted.

Battery

The 3,000mAh battery gives more than enough battery life to the users. On my moderate usage, it lasts for more than 12 hours which is pretty impressive. Minimal users will get a full day battery backup with the smartphone.

Camera

The rear camera is of 13-megapixel with f/2.2 apertures and LED flash. The camera shoots decent images in daylight. The low-light performance is good but not the best as per the camera provided. The front camera is of 16MP Samsung S5K3P3ST sensor with f/2.0 aperture and Moonlight Glow. The selfie camera shoots impressive images. The captured photos have a good amount of details, colour composition and depth. The moonlight glow provides a prominent light source needed for the perfect shot. Along with the camera comes with a bundle of modes like Bokeh and Group Selfie.

Overall

At a price of 14990 INR, the Vivo Y69 is a well-balanced smartphone. It offers decent performance and amazing selfie camera. If your priority is good selfie capabilities within this budget, you can surely go for it. Else you can take a look at the smartphones such as Lenovo K8 Note and Xiaomi Mi A1.
