Apple iPhone 11 Pro review: Setting a Benchmark in Mobile Photography and much more

Despite the eye-watering prices, Apple managed to clock its highest revenue in Q3 2019. Thanks to its iPhone and Mac sales, the company reported a stronger growth curve for two consecutive years in India.

Apple announced its iPhone 11 Pro which garnered a set of mixed reactions from the smartphone community. While the users labelled the smartphone stature as loss of innovation, Apple claimed it to be the most capable upgrade ever. The iPhone 11 Pro’s changes included a set of massive updates in the camera department, with its Smart HDR, Night mode and Camera stabilization technology.

So does the iPhone 11 Pro qualify as a worthy successor to the lot, well let’s find out!

Design and Display

Essentially build on a similar platform as the iPhone X, the new iPhone 11 Pro looks classy and refreshing with its stainless-steel design and glass body frame. The matte finish on the back not only resists fingerprint but also makes the smartphone feel far more compelling. As expected, the device looks like eye candy with its range of conservative hues such as Midnight Green, Space Grey, Gold and Silver.

The three large camera lenses that dominate the top left corner seems intimidating at first, but as time passes, you get used to it. The device, rated for IP68 makes it resistant to dirt and water up to 4 meters. Despite its pocketable outlook, the new iPhone 11 Pro feels a tad bit heavy and bulky owing to its enhanced battery life.

The 5.8-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display isn’t a massive leap over the earlier ones, but peaks out in regards to the brightness level. The presence of Dolby Vision, HDR10 and Spatial audio makes watching movies a joyous experience. Overall, this OLED panel looks pretty stunning, thanks to its wide colour gamut and ultrawide viewing angles.

Processor

The iPhone 11 Pro comes with a setup of A13 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM, which marks a 20% boost in real-world performance. The smartphone handles every task, every activity, every request with exceptional ease. The level of response and the prompt nature of processor will blow your expectations out of the water.

We also pitted the iPhone 11 Pro with the Note 10 and OnePlus 7 Pro to find the Greekbench score on these devices. In our testing, the iPhone blew the competition out of the water, with its multi-core score of 3509 that was stacked against 2640 of Galaxy Note and 2802 of the OnePlus 7 Pro.

The gaming performance was nothing surprising given the Geekbench scores, as the smartphone handled all titles with an average fps of over 40 with max settings. For people looking for editing high graphic 4k videos on the go, the iPhone 11 Pro is the best choice one and for all.

Camera

The iPhone 11 Pro comes with a triple camera setup of 12MP primary lens, 2x Telephoto lens and an ultra-wide lens, backed by all the computational AI prowess you could get. The new lens setup is a noticeable step up from the last year, as the camera now produced some of the best images we have ever seen. The smartphone stands on par with the image quality observed during Pixel 3, which is impressive, to say the least.

Apple’s new night mode marks a benchmark when it comes to low light photography as the shots created looked crisp and colourful. Smart HDR is another aspect which defines the camera, as it felt a lot more eager to find the exact tones of the subject than before. Images are less dramatic and more lifelike than before, which is undoubtedly a good thing.

The combination lens setup gives you the ability to shoot at 0.5x, 1x or 2x optical zoom then up to 10x digital zoom. The outdoor shots we took with varying degrees of zoom were crisp and clear.

The video capturing ability of the iPhone 11 Pro is arguably the best we could find on smartphones till now. The amazing clarity and steadiness, we observed form the 4K (60 fps) footage, would compel users to shoot awesome videos till their heart’s content. It wasn’t soon before we maxed our 64GB storage with the stunning 4K videos shot around the office.

The selfie camera also receives professional treatment, as the sensor is bumped up to 12MP. This new unit can capture shots with an astonishing amount of detail and clarity. The selfies were clear and lifelike despite the obtrusive nature of light during our times of testing. It comes with new Slofie mode which we didn’t like that much but the best thing about the front camera is that it can shoot 4K videos at 60fps too similar to rear camera which no other smartphone in the market can do.

Overall the camera on the iPhone 11 Pro marks a considerable leap in regards to smartphone photography and would surely send competition back to the drawing board.

Battery

Being an iPhone, we expected the device to last an entire day despite our heavy use. However, to our surprise, the device managed to retain a 20% battery despite our great movie and gaming sessions. The phone lasted an average of 14 hours as per our in-house testing, which is quite impressive. The charging time is slashed down to 1 hour thanks to the fast charging 18W charger included in the box.

Gizmo Verdict

Despite people’s opinion, we find the iPhone 11 Pro to be a worthy upgrade. The smartphone has a lot to offer through its excellent design, beautiful camera, faster processor and revised battery life. So, if you are in the market looking for a smartphone that’s high on camera tech. Well, look no further.
